Yesterday, it was officially confirmed that former Stanway Rovers and Coggeshall Town manager and Colchester United club legend Karl Duguid will be joining forces with Ryan Salter as a member of the coaching staff here at Brightlingsea Regent. Here is the first interview with Karl following the appointment.

Doogie, welcome to Brightlingsea Regent! We saw you on the bench at the Redbridge game, tell us how the move has come about?

KD: " I know the gaffer through football, and I used to see him at the northern gateway where the sigma football academy trains. We used to speak every day when I was there, then joined the sigma academy as a coach last year and this year I have joined in a more full-time role which I am enjoying."

"I have been out of football since I left Braintree at the end of last season and Salts (Ryan Salter) has been asking me since preseason if I’m getting back into it and it took me about 4-5 weeks before I stated missing it. "

"He then asked if I could help out against Redbridge, which I did and really enjoyed, he then asked me after if I wanted to come in full-time to which I said yes and here I am. I’m really looking forward to getting going with this group of talented players. I want to help get the best out of the group and I’m sure we can as a staff achieve that."

There are some close links between Regent and Ipswich, but also Regent and Colchester so the Colchester element of our fanbase will be delighted to see you on a match day. Many will know your strengths as a player but tell us about what you are like as a coach?

KD: "I love coaching and I love being on the training pitch with the players helping them develop and improve. The satisfaction when you see something happening on game day that you have worked on in training is what it’s all about as a coach."
