Brightlingsea Regent are delighted to confirm that Karl Duguid has joined the coaching staff, bringing an experienced figure into the coaching department.

The former Colchester United and Plymouth club legend links up with Ryan Salter's coaching department, who will be looking to further bolster results in the league and push towards the upper end of the Isthmian League North after a disappointing start.

Karl Duguid made a name for himself in North Essex, developing through the youth team system at Colchester United, before making his debut for the U's against Hereford United aged seventeen in 1995. Undeniably becoming one of the most iconic names at Colchester United, Duguid featured on a staggering 471 occasions.

Following on from his retirement in 2015, Karl Duguid has gained coaching, alongside managerial experience at an array of Essex-based non-league clubs. After calling an end to an immense career, Duguid linked up with Stanway Rovers in the summer of 2016, guiding them to sixth in his first campaign in a managerial position, following up with another solid season in the ninth tier with an eighth-place finish.

Departing in the summer of 2018, Duguid subsequent role came at Heybridge Swifts, joining forces with Jody Brown, describing Duguid as " the right calibre of person and the right calibre of coach ", evident through the upgrade to number one command in the following season.

A spell as a joint manager with Coggeshall Town swiftly followed, combining efforts with Stuart Nethercott, ultimately overseeing a thirteenth place in the Isthmian League North, before returning to Stanway Rovers once again in 2022 as their head coach, however, despite initial success, resigned in September 2023 due to a poor run of form and a desire to take a break from football.

His most recent role took place in the National League, acting as assistant manager at Braintree Town, overseeing their two-year spell in the fifth tier, but his tenure ultimately concluded at the end of last season, after their relegation back to the National League South.
