Brightlingsea Regent transfer update - a look at our new signings.

William Mallard-Smith

A look at our newest recruits

Ryan Salter and the backroom staff have been busy assembling the squad ahead of the 2026/2027 season opener against Histon on the 8th of August. Here is a look at the new players through the door this week:

Ben Sargent:

A familiar face for those who attended our friendly against AFC Pegasus, in which Ben bagged two second half goals, Sargent bolsters our attacking midfield ahead of the upcoming campaign.

A graduate from Ryan Salter's Sigma Football academy and a part of Ryan's treble winning team at the Sigma Academy, he featured on forty occasions last season for FC Clacton, bagging twenty-five goals in the process. Ben's standout moment was undeniably netting all five goals in a sublime 5-1 victory over Long Melford, writing his name into the club’s history books as the first player ever in FC Clacton’s history to score five in a single game.

Sonny Carr

Sonny Carr links up with the squad for 26/27 having joined up with the club last year during pre-season but spending the 25/26 campaign on loan at Cornard Rangers in the Eastern counties League Premier Division, making fourteen appearances.

The exciting young talent already impressed supporters in pre-season, including a wonder strike from outside the box against AFC Pegasus, and we look forward to seeing what he can deliver in a Brightlingsea Regent shirt!

Roan Tucker

Following the departure of Luke Avenell, Roan Tucker links up with Regent as our new number one for the forthcoming season, having featured as a trialist in the previous three friendly games.

Tucker spent a majority of the prior season with local rivals Brantham Athletic, departing off the back of their relegation back down to the Eastern Counties Division Premier, with spells at Needham Market's academy (regularly featuring in the matchday squad) as well as Lakenheath additionally under his belt.

Jensen Mulqueen

Rounding off the week's incomings is box-to-box central midfielder Jensen Mulqueen, who in a similar fashion to Ben Sargent, is incredibly familiar with the gaffer, being a product of Colne Community College under Ryan Salter. Mulqueen likewise featured on numerous occasions for Regent in pre-season, scoring alongside putting in some impressive shifts.

He spent last season with AFC Sudbury, who were relegated from the Southern Premier Division Central, bagging two league goals despite the club's underwhelming season. Prior to AFC Sudbury, the midfielder spent time with FC Clacton and Brantham Athletic, playing a vital role in their 24/25 promotion season.
