Great Dane Tigers U13s 0:8 Brightlingsea Regent U13s

Brightlingsea Regent U13s travelled down the A12 to Brentwood this morning to play Great Danes Tigers in the Preliminary round of the Essex Cup. Looking to extend the their 2 match winning run the U13s started really well, not allowing the tigers out of their half, the pressure told with Giorgio Phillips crossing from the right and Luca Sayer smashing the ball home from a couple of yards out 1:0 to regent with 5 minutes gone. Regent continued to be well on top despite the pitch having a noticeable slope, we were uphill in the first half, chances continued to come and go without adding to the score with Henry Tither, Luca, Aidan Darby and Giorgio all having shots, finally another quality cross from Giorgio found Luca unmarked who headed home for his second of the game. The boys were now in total control with Sammy Kerr and Rafe Chapman dominating the midfield, getting the ball down and using the width the tigers just couldn't deal with the pace of Giorgio Phillips. At the back Alfie Behn, Zac Levett Alex Hill and Billy Wiggins were their normal brilliant best, with Oscar Finbow looking like a man mountain in goal we weren't troubled at all. As the half went on it was only a matter of time before the U13s extended the lead, when it came it was worth waiting for Luca Sayer turned on the edge of the box and curled the ball the the far post and over the keeper to complete a brilliant first half hat trick. HT 0:3

The second half started with Regent having the slope and made most of the advantage with the goal of the game Giorgio Phillips put in another cracking cross right on to the foot of Luca Sayer who volleyed home our and his 4th goal of the game. What a great goal and also gave Giorgio a hat trick of assists. The boys carried on dominating despite us making a number of substitutions, 2 of those combined for the 5th goal with Edward Bryant having his best game of the season passing through to Reuben Purkiss who scored on his debut for the regent, Reuben has great touch, likes a 1-2 and absolutely loves an over head kick - I for one cant wait to see him connect with one soon. the 6th goal was a real peach from Aidan Darby scoring high in the centre of the goal from 20 yards, real quality. moments later a through ball from Alex Hill put Aidan through again this time he poked the ball home just inside the post 7:0. the final goal of the game was a great through ball from Jack Beard putting Alex Hill clean through, Alex composed himself and confidently put the ball in the back of the net. 8:0

Overall a brilliant performance by the U13s who are really starting to look like a great team. With the pace and passing ability and timing of tackles from Zac Levett and Alfie Behn at the back we look solid, The midfield are working hard and starting to use the width much better and upfront we have a real battle for places with Luca, Lindon, Yusef, Aidan and new addition Reuben, the future looks great.

back to today a few players had their best game of the season, Giorgio 3 assists, quality crossing and overall work rate, Edward in midfield had a great game, Max Kerr played both right back and left back and looked comfortable in both positions. Jack is really pushing for a starting place, Zac Levitt's game is starting to progress even further, some of his distribution from the back is real quality, but we had to pick Luca Sayer for Man of the Match today 4 goals and all round great performance - great to see him smile
