MATCH PREVIEW
Brightlingsea Regent welcome Carshalton Athletic to North Road, in a week that has seen the R’s pick up two fantastic results. Firstly last Saturday’s victory at Horsham and Tuesday nights crucial point at home to title chasing Folkestone Invicta
Munyard’s men come into this fixture full of confidence, twice restoring a two goal deficit to put points on the board. After falling behind on Tuesday evening in the first half hour, it looked like it was going to be a long night, but Regent just kept going, scoring either side of the break. Wyan Reid lashed home a rocket and Ollie Bell slotted home a loose ball on the edge of the box, with the pair getting their first league goals for the club.
LAST TIME OUT
This wasn’t a match that will sit well in the memory of the travelling supporters. Referring back to the beginning of November, the R’s were battered 6-1, which turned out to be Tom Austin and Ryan Salter’s last match in charge.
The only bright note on that occasion was newly capped São Tomé and Príncipe International Valter Rocha return to the club to make his second debut, scoring with a volley for a consolation.
CURRENT FORM (ALL COMPS)
Brightlingsea Regent – DLLWD
The R’s turned their form around on Saturday at Horsham, but what proceeded Tuesday night was an empathic draw with Folkestone Invicta in the same week. The lads will now be really confident going into this one having shown they can compete with one of the league’s ‘big guns’.
Victory today would really put pressure on the teams around us, and if results go our way, we will leapfrog Cray Wanderers and Merstham up the table.
Carshalton Athletic – DWLLL
Peter Adenyini’s team have suffered three straight defeats which has seen them fall 11 points adrift of playoff contention.
A draw on the road to Corinthian-Casuals and a victory at home to Haringey Borough make up their previous 5 results, but defeats to Margate, Potters Bar Town and Bognor Regis Town has potentially seen their season come to a halt. Despite this, The R’s will still need to maintain a high standard to get a result over the Robins.
DANGERMAN
Daniel Bassett - Striker
Dan Bassett has notched 18 for the season so far, with his electric pace, he is a very dangerous opponent. The striker has been at Tooting & Mitcham, Hampton & Richmond & Concord Rangers where he has always found the net. Now 26, the striker is at his prime and will be looking to add to his impressive goalscoring exploits for the remainder of the season and beyond.
