Izzet’s first game in charge saw his R’s side go down 3-0

In front of a big crowd of 867, Regent were well beaten by a very good Worthing side

Kem took to the dugout for the first time and made a few changes to the starting line up. Pip Boyland returned to the starting 11, and there was a debut for Colchester United youngster Diogo Freitas-Gouveia. Fellow new recruits Jake Hutchinson and Warren Thomas took their place on the bench.

The host caused a scare almost immediately from kick-off when a ball forward down the flank was centred only for Turner to make a good save to deny Jasper Pattenden.

Up the other end, Regent mastered an early chance with Lamell Howell getting in behind only for his cross to be halted by the Worthing defence as Diogo Freitas-Gouveia was stood to pounce.

Moments later, Regent engineered a corner out of nothing, the original set piece was half cleared only for the ball to be reloaded towards Billy Hunt, who’s effort was well blocked by Carl Rushworth between the Worthing Sticks.

After 17 minutes, the host took the lead. Good initial play down the right got Worthing in on goal with a low cross, a fantastically timed tackle by Pip Boyland unfortunately found its way into the path of Marvin Armstrong to slot home! 1-0

The half went by with the Rebels unable to extend the lead despite the lack of trying. Regent managed to snuff out the hosts efforts and kept it to just a single goal at the break. HT 1-0!

The second half started in the worst possible fashion for Regent as Worthing doubled the advantage. A searching long ball saw the ball break to Marvin Armstrong unopposed to volley home from close range. 2-0

Regent responded well, with some good football from Lamell Howell bursting forward, got Billy Hunt a chance to turn and strike low on the edge of the box forcing a great save by Rushworth to push wide.

Izzet made changes, introducing Jake Hutchinson and Fahad Nazar to replace Diogo Freitas-Gouveia and Billy Hunt.

Regent pushed to get back in the game but only half chances were all R’s could hope for.

Jake Hutchinson, who worked hard and caused problems after being introduced, won a freekick on the edge of the box as he drove forward. But the Resulting strike by Jake Turner went wide of the goal.

Late on, Worthing added a third on the counter, a killer ball from Cameron Tutt found substitute Callum Kealy who slotted home past the oncoming Charlie Turner. FT: 3-0

A tough game for Regent as Kem used the match to asses his new side.

Regent now have a week off as Tuesday nights clash with Potters Bar Town is postponed as they require an FA Cup Replay.

Next up, is FA Trophy weekend as Regent host Royston Town this coming Saturday
