The R’s were in good form going into the game with one defeat in their last four and away form that has the saw Regent pick up 15 points!
The game took a while to get going with the first quarter of the match we saw limited chances, the most notable of the earlier action saw the Urchins George Purcell shoot from distance straight at James Bradbrook and Morisi Gelashvili struck wide just inside the box with a half volley for the visitors.
The hosts best chance of the of the half was from Nana Boakye-Yiadom as he went by Jake Turner and struck with power forcing James Bradbrook to make a fine save.
After half an hour, the Bar came to Hornchurch’s rescue! A great cross on the right-hand side was met by the rising head of Billy Hunt who struck the underneath of the bar with Callum Chafer beaten in the Urchins net. The Referee and his Assistant shook their head as the R’s players asked the question as to whether the ball had bounced over the line!
Regent made a change at half-time as Harry Morgan was introduced to replaced Lewis Hargreaves as Manager Rothery looked to change his shape.
After 55 minutes the R’s struck first, Aaron Condon got the ball down the right with a great pass from Morgan, he travelled down the flank committing his defender, then moved the ball onto his left foot and struck with venom into the top corner! 0-1
The Regent lead lasted just 9 minutes as the hosts skipper Alex Bentley found the leveller, a corner was flicked on to the back post where Bentley had taken position. He volleyed at goal where Bradbrook made a good save but the rebound fell back to Bentley who struck home on his second attempt. 1-1
Two minutes later Regent looked to regain the advantage when Billy Hunt forced Callum Chafer into action. Hunt went by his man in the middle of the pitch advancing to the edge of the box, striking well by Chafer managed to tip over.
On 71 minutes, Condon doubled his goal tally for the R’s to regain the lead in spectacular style. Morisi Gelashvili struck at goal forcing Chafer to push wide, Harvey Hodd kept it alive and Hunt centred with Aaron Condon positioned to score with an acrobatic overhead kick! Another peach from the R’s wide man. 1-2
Jake Turner had a chance to make it three with a rifled strike at goal but Chafer was equal to it late on.
The R’s defended in numbers and soaked up any late Hornchurch pressure to see out a wonderful victory that moves the R’s up to 17th in the league table.
Rothery’s side now with 4 wins from 5 in December as it looks to be a Merrier Christmas for the Regent gaffer.
