Brightlingsea Regent made the trip to promotion candidates Tonbridge Angels, once again boarding the coach filled with players and supporters.
The R's battled to the death, defending brilliantly at times throughout the match.
Both sides muscled there way into the match and the first half only really saw half chances from both teams. Phil Kelly got in behind the Angels defence early on, but struck his effort wide. Up the other end Dan Thompson got a shot at goal which was comfortably saved by Sam Cowler.
The R's did have the ball in the net midway through the half, Tom Richardson allegedly fouled the Angels keeper Jonathan Healy, before slotting home.
The Regent side kept attacking, Billy Hunt had a shot deflected wide, and some good wing play got Hunt down the left, but his cross wasn't effective.
The hosts responded with Joe Turner shooting wide and Nathan Elder wriggling free, but his effort was blocked by Matt Cripps.
Tonbridge did have the ball in the back of the net themselves when Dan Thompson knocked home a Nathan Elder cross, but this was ruled out by the Assistants flag. HT 0-0
Tonbridge got out of the traps quickly in the second half, Dan Thompson got a header at goal which was comfortable for Sam Cowler before beating him a few minutes later but this time Matt Cripps was well positioned to make a goal line clearance.
On the hour mark, Josh Gould got himself booked for a foul on Joe Turner, but Regent continued to deal with the aerial bombardment well.
The 70th minute saw Josh Gould get his marching orders for a second booking, a hooked ball forward got Dan Thompson through, with Gould bringing the striker to the ground.
The extra man advance final paid off for the Angels, in the 84th minute, with another ball sent into the box was headed home by winger Joe Turner, beating the oncoming Sam Cowler. 1-0
Tonbridge sealed the victory in added time, substitute Andre McCollin got through and hit an early half volley past Cowler. FT 2-0
A good performance from the R's overall, in a match where they gave it there all. Just a big shame they couldn't keep it 11 a side as they deserved a point.
Onto the next one this coming Saturday, when we host Hendon
