Brightlingsea Regent return to North Road for the second consecutive matchday on Tuesday night, taking on Lowestoft Town FC under the floodlights.
Off the back of a blank game week due to Cambridge City’s progression into the next round of the FA Cup Qualification rounds, the R’s will be raring to get back into action after a lengthy spell away from competitive action.
Last Tuesday’s one-all draw against AFC Sudbury marked an upturn in form, picking up our third point of the Isthmain League North campaign and leaving spirits high ahead of our clash with Lowestoft Town.
We look forward to welcoming supporters from both clubs to North Road, with the key information being as follows:

A look at the opposition:
Lowestoft Town were founded in 1887 as Lowestoft FC, following a merger between East Suffolk & Kirkley. Despite reaching the FA Amateur Cup Final in 1900 (ultimately losing to Bishop’s Auckland), they didn’t become a semiprofessional outfit until 1962, but became a dominant force in the Eastern Counties divisions during that decade, regularly winning League Cups and qualifying for the FA Cup.
Their highest ever league position occurred during the 2014/15 campaign. After achieving promotion to the sixth tier the season prior, defeating AFC Hornchurch in the playoffs, Lowestoft ended their initial National League North season in 16th place on 51 points. Unfortunately for the Trawler Boys, the following season concluded in relegation, agonisingly close to staying up, but condemned by goal difference.
Since then, things haven’t been too positive for them. After spells in the seventh tier, Lowestoft now finds themselves struggling in the eighth tier, sitting in 19th place in the division, with ongoing financial concerns leading to uncertainty regarding the future of the club.
Results haven’t been pretty viewing either, as in their previous three league fixtures, the Trawler Boys have conceded 18 goals, however, current manager Chris Bond will be looking to turn their form around tonight.
Last time we met:
Our last clash with today’s opposition wasn’t one to remember for Regent supporters, as the R’s suffered a 4-1 defeat in the final game week of last season.
Despite the R’s drawing the first blood through Jake Clowsley, Lowestoft’s frontline possessed too much attacking power for the Regent backline to handle, as Aaron Bullent levelled the scoreline before half-time, before Sam Howell and substitutes Mitchell Belmar and Benjamin Haddoch wrapped up the three points.
The R’s will be looking to avoid repeating history tonight and claim the three points for themselves for the first time in the league this season.
