Regent are on the road tomorrow night for our first away match of the 26/27 campaign and we are traveling to Canvey Island FC in our first meeting since they returned to the Isthmian North and our first encounter since January 2025. The R's will be rearing to get their first competitive win of the 2026/27 campaign after Saturday's goalless draw against Tilbury and the lads will be fired up to get their names on the score sheets!

Tomorrow's opponents
Canvey (The Gulls) have tasted success in recent years, winning the Essex Senior Cup in 2024/25 (Beating us along the way!) and enjoyed play-off success to gain promotion to the Isthmian Premier division (Step 3) in 2021-22, beating Felixstowe in the semi-final and Brentwood Town on penalties in the final to seal promotion glory. They finished their first season back at Step 3 in an impressive 3rd place before losing their second successive play-off campaign to Aveley FC.

A decline in league finishes followed in their successive seasons before finishing bottom of the Isthmian Premier division last season sealing relegation back to the Isthmian League North for 2026/27. They will be one of the teams to watch this season as they look to bounce straight back up. They go into tomorrows game on the back of an impressive 2-1 win away to Cambridge City.

The previous encounter
Tournament: Essex Senior Cup Quarter Final
Result: Brightlingsea Regent 1 (1) - (3) 1 Canvey Island - Canvey Win 3-1 on Penalties

The last time the two sides faced each other was in the Essex Senior Cup Quarter-Final of the 2024/25 campaign on a cold and dreary January Tuesday night. Canvey had beaten Dagenham & Redbridge 3-0 in the previous round and the R's had beaten Aveley FC 2-1 to setup the encounter.

It was an evenly matched game with chances for both sides, but Canvey struck first on 43' minutes through Jamie Salmon to lead at the break. In the second half Louie Kudiabor equalized for the R's on 68 minutes to bring the tie all square. Neither side could find a winner and the match was decided via a penalty shoot out with Canvey Island coming out on top 3-1 winners. They went on to win the tournament that season after beating Hornchurch on penalties in the Final.

By Car:
Exit M25 at Junction 30 and take the A13 towards Southend. You will reach a series of mini roundabouts. At these roundabouts, take the A130 towards Canvey Island. At the next roundabout take the 2nd exit which will keep a sports centre on your right and follow signs for Canvey Island Football Club. Eventually, you will enter a one way system. Keep left through the one way system and after one mile you will pass the Transport Museum on your right. Park Lane is on the right hand side shortly afterwards, with The Prospects Stadium located in front of you. There is plenty of parking outside the ground.

By Train:
Benfleet Station is 40 minutes from London Fenchurch Street and 50 minutes from London Liverpool Street on the C2C line. The station is 5 miles from the ground. There is a taxi rank around the back of the station. Alternatively, you can use the frequent bus service from the front of the station:

By Bus:
You can use the number 22 or 27 bus to be dropped directly outside Park Lane. Alternatively, you can use the number 21 or 21A to be dropped by the sea wall. From here, continue walking in the direction you travelled across some playing fields, and you will see The Prospects Stadium on your left.
