Brightlingsea Regent travelled to West Street on Tuesday evening where they took on Coggeshall United in the Quarter final of this seasons Essex FA Tolleshunt D’Arcy Cup.
Coggeshall United featured seven members from Coggeshall Town who are having a good season in the Bostik North.
The first chance of the match came after 13 minutes when Aaron Condon advanced past his marker creating space to shoot on the edge of the box, but United’s goalkeeper Matt Walker tipped over.
The former Coggeshall Town man Aaron Condon went agonisingly close 10 minutes later, Harvey Hodd did well on the lift wing, crossing low for Condon who shot with a side foot volley.
The first half ending with Regent edging the contest but unable to find a breakthrough.
On the hour mark, Billy Hunt was denied after bringing the ball down with his back to goal and on the turn striking well forcing Matt Walker into action once again.
With 15 minutes to play, Aaron Condon stole the ball from a Coggeshall defender on the left hand side, cutting into the box but only managing to hit the side netting.
Azza finally got his deserved goal on the 80 minute mark. Jake Turner carried the ball forward for the R’s, beating his man before cutting back to the edge of the area where Aaron Condon had space and time to set and shoot low, with the great strike beating Walker for pace. 0-1!
The R’s did have a late scare as Coggeshall looked to get back into the game, a long diagonal ball got George Smith in on goal but his strike went wide. Full-Time 0-1!
The match finished with Regent advancing through to the semi-final where either Hullbridge Sport or Kelvedon Social await.
A good workout for the R’s as they prepare themselves for Saturday’s visit of Kingstonian.
