I'd like to say a huge thankyou once more to Chairman Terry Doherty, Andy & Jenny Turtill plus the Club Committee for allowing us to use the club facilities on a Monday afternoon for our local Stroke Survivors here in the Community of Brightlingsea.
BSSS are pleased to report that as of this year we will soon be operating independently under our own charity status and local community group.
You may of seen the volunteers out and about around the town branding a new uniform which coincides with the local Town Council and Regent FC badges and colours - good old red and black!
We are delighted to continue to have our BSSS name on the back of the home shirt for the season and be able to sponsor the match today.
I thought it would be nice for some of our local Regent supporters who have suffered a stroke to say a few words on how BSSS have helped and supported them with their recovery.
As a stroke survivor of 4 years, Brightlingsea Stroke Support Services (BSSS) has helped me become more independent through their weekly sessions of physiotherapy and hydrotherapy. This has helped me to be able to walk and move without any assistance. The social side of BSSS has allowed me to offer advice and perspective to fellow stroke survivors who have recently suffered a stroke and need someone to talk to, ask questions and express their worries or concerns with someone who has been through what they are experiencing. BSSS offers so much to stroke survivors that isn't readily available elsewhere.

As a stroke survivor, Brightlingsea Stroke Support Services have provided a way back to normality after a fairly traumatic period in my life, from the social aspect to the availability of group physiotherapy, it is a vital part of the long road to stroke recovery, in mind, body and soul.

I have been part of Brightlingsea Stroke Support Services since its inception in 2023 having suffered a stroke in 2019. It provides me with the opportunity to meet other stroke survivors where we can talk about our experiences, difficulties and general wellbeing, as well as being able to access physio support sessions. I highly recommend and encourage anyone who is a stroke survivor to come and see us on a Monday afternoon.
Don’t be shy - we are a friendly bunch.
