Two sides who are in great form take on each other, and both are not afraid to score goals! Today, Brightlingsea Regent take on Cambridge City!
Both sides have had a tough start to the season, but recently have managed to pick up good results. Brightlingsea Regent haven’t lost in 7 games in all competitions, and it currently puts them in 12th in the table. Cambridge City, on the other hand, haven’t lost a game since 14th October, giving them a 10 game unbeaten streak.
And today the two sides clash at the FWD-IP COmmunity Stadium, where Cambridge will be looking to use home advantage and both sides will be looking to stay unbeaten.
When asked about the streak so far, the Brightlingsea Regent manager, Ryan Salter, said that they “see every game as a cup final” due to their tough start to the season. He also admits that the team “haven’t got good results from luck, but from hard work”. Last year’s play-off runners up will certainly be hoping to go up this time, with Salter also saying that he “backs the squad to have a special season”.
Maybe this success could be down to their phenomenal attacking numbers. All of their attackers have reached at least 6 goals already this season, with Temple, Clowsley, Rowe and Ola Bello all chipping in to the count. Speaking of whom, Salter has been very impressed by Ola Bello this season, saying he has been a ‘revelation for us’, and ‘he’s very different to the other attackers I’ve got’. This could be the key to beating Cambridge City, and potentially staying unbeaten for longer, as Brightlingsea look to recover lost ground.
Salter has also admitted that Brightlingsea are motivated to improve their defence and get more clean sheets, saying that goalkeeper Luke Avenell is “desperate for clean sheets”, which really shows how much he puts into the club.
Cambridge are not a bad side themselves however. As aforementioned, they have not lost a game since 2 months ago, and their top scorer, George Smith, will be looking to add to his tally this afternoon.
The last matchup between the two sides had a dramatic ending, where supporters of both sides may remember a 90+6’ minute equalising penalty from Brightlingsea, scored by Louie Kudiabor. Today’s game at Cambridge City could produce some drama too, so let’s see what happens!
