A narrow home defeat to Stanway Rovers

On Friday night we entertained Thurlow Nunn Premier side Stanway Rovers at North Road in our latest pre-season game. Webster was without Warren, Philbo and Salter from recent squads which left us a little depleted. Despite the downpour on the day, the pitch was in really good condition and Stanway started the better, moving the ball really well. After 10 minutes they scored to make it 0-1 and in truth the first 35 minutes, we just weren’t at the races. We did however in the last 10, start competing better and making it harder for Stanway to move the ball with as much ease, whilst also playing better football. We nearly levelled just before half time but Rymer was adjudged off-side when he was played through, so his finish was ruled out. HT 0-1
We made 1 change with Kev making way for Pagey whilst Stanway made a few changes including their keeper, who after 15 minutes made an absolute worldie of a save from a 25 yard strike from Rymer. Not to be outdone Moysey then made a great save from 6 yards to deny Stanway a second. Both sides continued to play some good football with no more goals. FT 0-1
A good workout once again, a pretty poor first 35 minutes for us but afterwards we competed well and played some good football, against in my opinion a good Premier side in Stanway Rovers. So our first defeat this pre-season and we will be looking to bounce back when we play, Border Premier side Lawford Lads, away on Tuesday night 7pm kick off.
