Brightlingsea Regent return to North Road after a three-week spell of back-to-back-to-back away games, taking on Redbridge FC in the Isthmian League North Division for a 3PM kickoff.

Regent’s results thus far haven’t been particularly satisfactory, settling for a no-score draw in the opening league fixture against Tilbury, with the same outcome occurring away at fellow Essex rivals Canvey on the following Tuesday.

A string of three successive defeats unfortunately followed, beginning with Isthmian League North new boys Little Oakley, who claimed a three-one win, and the following Saturday our fortunes didn’t change in the cup, eventually losing via a penalty shootout to Ware FC.

Ryan Salter’s Regent lads will be looking to reverse the current form and claim their first victory of the competitive season at North Road on Saturday against a Redbridge side who started the season on a positive note.

Despite Saturday’s heavy defeat to title favourites Felixstowe & Walton, we are hoping for a victory and to welcome as many of you as possible to North Road, with the matchday details as follows:

Jake Clowsley is set to miss Saturday’s fixture, as he continues to serve his suspension for the red card collected after the full-time whistle during the away fixture at Little Oakley, whilst Jenson Mulqueen remains a doubt due to a knock collected in training.

Due to the recent fixture pile-up, balancing cup fixtures and midweek league fixtures, there is a high likelihood that we see some rotation in the starting lineup.

A look at the opposition:

Redbridge FC were founded in the year 1959 as Ford United, due to being established through the car manufacturing industry across South Essex and East London, with a merger between Ford Sports and Brigg Sports, before switching to the name Redbridge FC in 2004.

After promotion back to the eighth tier in 2021/22 under George Christou, Redbridge have remained in the division, with their highest league position coming in 2004/2005, finishing 22nd in the Conference South (now known as the National league South, the sixth tier of English football).

After a couple of mid-table finishes occurred prior to last campaign, manager Chris Taylor guided Redbridge to the playoff final, ultimately ended by an agonising penalty shootout loss against Stanway Rovers.

Looking to bounce-back from last season’s heartbreak, Redbridge have begun the campaign in fine form, claiming victory in their opening three league fixtures over Felixstowe & Walton United, Gorleston, and Bowers & Pitsea FC, however suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat to freshly relegated Hashtag United on Bank Holiday Monday.

Redbridge’s two main men in front of goal so far this season have been Jake Chawner and Bruno Tavares, with both bagging three goals, making them two players to keep an eye out for on Saturday.

Last time we met:

Our last league meeting took place back on the 31st January at a cold and wintery North Road, where Redbridge ultimately claimed the three points in a two-nil victory.

The deadlock was broken in the 41st minute, after Pedro Carvahlo’s quick dribble down the flank made its way into the box, flawlessly finding an unmarked Malachi Napa to slot home.

Midway through the second half, Redbridge doubled their advantage through Olamiji Ayoola’s header directly from a free kick from just beyond the sidelines, beating the stumbling goalkeeper’s effort to prevent another passing him.

Despite plenty of efforts across the course of the game, Regent couldn’t beat the Redbridge goalkeeper, as they claimed the three points and a clean sheet.
