Latest League Update, Bulletin #24

Weekly Bulletin Season 2013-14

Bulletin No 24
January 26th 2014

ONLY SIX MATCHES FINISH IN LEAGUE ON SATURDAY

Waterlogged pitches put paid to all but seven Thurlow Nunn League matches on Saturday and one those, the game between Swaffham Town and Needham Market Reserves, was abandoned during the second half owing to a violent thunderstorm.

In the Premier Division Hadleigh United lost their unbeaten home record to a second half Ian Hunter goal for Norwich United. Hadleigh still lead the Premier Division table by 19 points although they have played more games than their title rivals. Felixstowe & Walton United are still unbeaten at home and up to fourth place after last season’s League leading goalscorer Ben Cranfield gave them a one goal victory over Wivenhoe Town.

Fakenham Town have taken over from waterlogged Whitton United at the top of the First Division after a Robbie Harris hat trick helped them to a 4-0 home success against Long Melford.

HADLEIGH PRESENTED WITH PERFORMANCE AWARD

Hadleigh United were presented with a Thurlow Nunn Football League Performance Award engraved salver before their match against Norwich United on Saturday. This was for their league performances during October and November.

The club also received a cheque for £150 (see opposite) with a cheque for £100 going to their nominated charity, Diabetes UK.

The presentations were made to Hadleigh United Chairman Rolf Beggerow by Thurlow Nunn Limited’s Sales Manager Shane Sivier and League Chairman Peter Hutchings.

RED INSURE CUP QUARTER FINALS THIS WEEK

This week sees the return of the Red Insure Cup with quarter final ties at Hadleigh United, Kirkley & Pakefield and Norwich United on Tuesday evening and at AFC Sudbury on Wednesday. AFC Sudbury are the only First Division team remaining in the competition and take on Brantham Athletic, who exited the FA Vase on Saturday despite a valiant effort in Sussex.
INCREASE IN FIRST DIVISION ATTENDANCES TOO!

Two thirds of First Division teams are seeing an increase in their league attendances this season. This follows on from the news in a recent Bulletin that the majority of Premier Division teams are also seeing an increase.

The First Division details are in the table below. It shows that the highest league crowd has been the 214 at the Whitton United v. Ipswich Wanderers local derby, although there were 215 at the Swaffham Town v. Wisbech Town FA Cup tie earlier in the season.

DONATE WHAT YOU LIKE AT WALSHAM

Next Saturday sees an interesting initiative at Walsham le Willows. They have a "Donate What You Like" to get into their home game with Wivenhoe Town. Anything from 1p upwards will get spectators into the match.

Walsham Chairman Mike Powles mentions that there will be quality local burgers to eat and fine Greene King ales on sale. He does however go onto say that with their home record nobody will be expecting a Walsham win!
