Braintree Town (H) Match Preview

Braintree Town (H) Match Preview

William Mallard-Smith10 Jul - 17:40

A look ahead towards tomorrow's friendly against Braintree Town.

Brightlingsea Regent return to pre-season action tomorrow afternoon, for our first Saturday home game since April at North road, as we take on National League South side Braintree Town, kicking off at 3PM.

Regent will approach the fixture with immense confidence, off the back of back-to-back wins over Hutton FC and AFC Pegasus, with the game being against a higher-ranked opposition, it will provide an opportunity for Ryan Salter to assess the squad against a higher calibre of opposition.

Additionally, the England game will be shown live in the clubhouse later in the night, for those of you who want to stick around, and of course, food and drink will be available to supporters before and during the game.

Entry for the game is as follows:

Adults: £7

Concession: £5

12-18 Years Old: £3

Under 12’s £1

We look forward to welcoming supporters to North Road this evening and appreciate your continued support going into the upcoming campaign.

A look at the opposition:

Our fellow Essex side Braintree Town were founded in 1898 under the name Manor Works (the works team of a manufacturing company from which they gained their nickname Iron), and currently find themselves in the National League South, following an underwhelming National League campaign resulting in just thirty-six points and a 23rd place finish.

Their stint in the National League lasted two years, having earned promotion via the playoffs in 2024, defeated Bath City 1–0 in the quarterfinals and Chelmsford City 3–2 in the semi-finals before ultimately beating Worthing in the final, ending a five-season stint away.

Prior, the Iron spent ma majority of the modern years attempting to establish themselves as a competitive force at the highest tiers of the non-league system. Memorable campaigns recently saw the club challenge for promotion to the EFL, reaching the National League play-offs in 2015/2016, and reaching the FA Cup Second Round during the subsequent season, facing off against Millwall.

Players to watch:

Braintree Town have struggled to bring masses of signings in recently, due to transfer embargos, ownership difficulty and just general financial constraints, however, over the past couple of days, have been incredibly active in the market.

Two former EFL players linked up with The Iron with EFL experience, being former Colchester United and AFC Wimbledon winger Courtney Senior (a player with over one hundred League Two appearances to his name) and former Burton and Shrewsbury loanee Elliot Thorpe.

Of course, Regent’s star player from 2025/2026 returns in Fin Adams, who shone at full-back last campaign, claiming over twenty goals and assists, alongside captaining Regent on numerous occasions.

Moreover, striker Anisius Lewis scored the opener for Maldon & Tiptree in their FA Cup First Round tie versus League One Port Vale, stunning viewers as the step eight side broke the deadlock.
