After the lights went out during the original tie and the officials calling off the game during the second half this was an extra fixture both teams could have done without.
Brightlingsea in particular could feel most aggrieved as they seemed to be the team most likely to progress from that first game. Harlow travelled to North Road for this game knowing they had to show Regent much more respect if they were to progress and included Sonko and Alex Reid in their team. As the game kicked off it was the visitors who made the most of an early opportunity to shock the home fans when a long clearance found danger man Reid who took the ball early and hit a long range shot which left Brightlingsea keeper Beeson with no chance to set himself and make a save.1-0 Harlow.
Brightlingsea looked to hit back and it was Harlow keeper David Hughes that produced several good saves to preserve the visitors lead. The Harlow keeper tipped over a volley from in form striker Aaron Condon and then had to make a smart save to deny Phil Kelly. It was Kelly who had another good chance from close range but dragged his shot wide disappointed that he didn't force at least a save from the Hawks keeeper.Dan Beeson in the Regent Goal was also called into action but he was more than equal to a Jared Small effort that was heading goalwards. Brightlingsea continued to apply pressure and it eventually paid off in added time at the end of the half when a long throw delivered into the Harlow box found the head of skipper Matt Cripps whose glancing effort found the visitors net.1-1 at half time.
Brightlingsea started the the second half strongly going close again when a George Doyle shot was saved and ushed out for a corner by keeper Hughes.Fog was now starting to affect the visibility across the pitch ad as it grew thicker the quality of the football started to suffer.Harlow began to have a little more possession but struggled to trouble the Regent goal being restricted to little more than half chances.
As the game came to a close Brightlingsea would feel that they had a good opportunity to win the game on the night given their number of decent chances. With the game ending in a draw both sides would meet again at The Harlow Arena the following Tuesday.
