Corinthian-Casuals 2-0 Brightlingsea Regent

Brightlingsea Regent's players and staff boarded the banter coach and made the long trip to Tolworth on a Tuesday night.

The R’s haven’t won an away midweek league fixture since 2017, and they were unable to change that fortune.

The R’s handed a debut to Laurence Whymark between the sticks as Charlie Turner had damaged his elbow in Saturday’s draw with East Thurrock United.

Zach Birse was still unavailable and Lewis Byrne-Hewitt was taken ill.

Sonny Bastone and Emmanuel Machaya were both declared fit enough for the bench.

It was a very cagey start from both teams, as chances were only created from distance.

Coaling Ekim struck high and wide from a deep free kick for the hosts and Gilbert did the same at the other end for Regent.

The best chance of the half fell to Jerry Kamanzi, 3 minutes before the interval. Some good R’s link up play got Kamanzi central striking on the edge of the box, curling round Bracken only to be denied by the post!

Casuals started the second half looking the more dangerous but it was the R’s who created another golden opportunity. Kane Gilbert was released down the right flank, delivering a fantastic stand up cross to the back post where Khris Oti out jumped his man and somehow failed to hit the target sending the ball wide.

Casuals made a couple of changes, and it was one of those substitutes; Nathaniel Pinney who happened to make the breakthrough.

With 15 to play, the hosts got the vital first goal. A snap shot from the left wasn't dealt with by Whymark and Pinney was able to stab home into an empty corner of the net! 1-0

The best the R’s could come up with in terms of a response was when Jordan Barnett lashed one over when passing was possibly the better option.

The hosts killed the match off when Kieron Cadogan let go from distance out of nowhere. Straight past Whymark in goal! 2-0

The R’s need to put that performance to one side very quickly, and focus on Saturday when we host Haringey Borough. There’s no doubt that Injuries are playing big part in Regent’s form right now!

We go again!
