Brightlingsea Regent welcomed Burgess Hill Town to the Essex coast on Tuesday night, in a fixture where the R’s were desperate to take all the points.
Regent could not hoped for a better start either, after just 30 seconds Sam Ashford notched his first goal for the club. Billy Hunt dribbled past Ibrahim Diallo the full back and crosses deep to the back post, where Ashford, unmarked, charged in to head home. 1-0
With 15 minutes on the clock, Jake Turner hooked a ball over the last defender for Billy Hunt to run onto, he took the ball under control and turned on the edge of the box striking hard at goal, but Max Huxter made a fine save.
Regent doubled the advantage after 40 minutes when a perfectly flighted Aaron Condon Corner allowed Captain Matt Cripps to get a run on his marker and head home with power via the underside of the crossbar! HT 2-0
Soon after the restart, Regent added a third. Aaron Condon was wrestled to the ground on the edge of the area to win a freekick, he then took the kick himself striking goalwards and past Huxter via a deflection. 3-0
After 56 minutes, Regent were awarded a penalty. Billy Hunt got the ball down and headed for the box, going past a defender before being brought down by the arm of Huxter in the Burgess Hill goal. Hunt himself stepped up and smashed home! 4-0
Just 6 minutes later the Hillians got one back, a cross from Lucas Rodriguez made its way through to Pat Harding towards the far post, he took a touch and struck into the corner of the net past Harry Palmer. 4-1
Regent added a fifth with two minutes to play, A great team move. Jake Turner laid in Jake Gould who got forward down the left. His cross beat everyone but was kept alive by Harry McDonald who turned inside and chipped for Billy Hunt to run on, directing his header into the top corner. 5-1
Burgess Hill finished the scoring soon after, Charlie Bennett found space on the edge of Regent’s Dee, he struck hard and low into the corner completing the scoring. FT 5-2
A fantastic win for Regent on the back of two disappointing last minute defeats. Three points taking the R’s into 10th as we continue to improve performances. With no game Saturday, our next fixture is now not till the 9th December when we travel to league leaders Dulwich Hamlet.
