Brightlingsea Regent welcomed Hendon to the Taydal stadium for their first Saturday home tie at step 3.
Both sides started cagey, with neither side taking control of the game. The R's probably had the pick of the chances in the half though, Home debutant Love headed over a Gard corner before Gard setup Billy Hunt who's volley was comfortable for the goalkeeper, midway through the half.
The visitors came out in the second half with a lot more menace. They should have opened the scoring when Hendon were awarded a penalty. Kenzie Ibe was brought down inside the area by Matt Cripps, but Niko Muirs penalty was sent high and wide.
The deadlock was finally broken after 74 minutes when a Cripps cross wasn't dealt with, and the ball was struck against Billy Hunt and into the net. 1-0
However, the hosts lead lasted just minutes when Hendon broke with Muir down the right, who crossed for Keagan Cole who was unmarked on the back post to smash home. 1-1
Despite chances at each end, the game looked destined for a draw until a moment of brilliance from second half substitute Phil Kelly, he managed to find space on the edge of the box and hit a half volley over the Greens Goalkeeper Tom Lovelock to claim victory for the Regent.
Brightlingsea Regent head to Needham Market on Bank Holiday Monday to complete the weekend double header.
