Brightlingsea come away winners after a trip to Thurrock who sat just inside the play-off positions

Brightlingsea put FA Trophy matters behind them and focused once again on league action with a trip to Thurrock. Manager James Webster makes three changes from the Harlow game with Russell Malton returning for Jake Gould, Harry McDonald in for Pedulu and Robbie Rees making his debut replacing the injured Tom Richardson.

The game kicked off at Ship Lane and after an early scare which saw Beeson save smartly at his near post It was the Rs who began to dominate this match. The focus, tempo and pressing of the visiting Brightlingsea team began to take its toll on Thurrock who despite never being totally out of the game were always chasing a lively Regent Team. Debutant Rees particularly impressed with is work rate which complimented the endeavour of Regents midfield of Turner and Witherspoon. Russell Malton also was impressing on his return and it was the Rs who took the lead with just under 10 minutes of the first half remaining. A Regent counter attack down the left hand side results in a cross to the far post. Mason in the Thurrock goal blocks the first header but cannot stop the rebound which looks like it comes off Condon and end up in the net. The goal is eventually credited as an own goal deemed to have come off the Thurrock keeper.1-0 Brightlingsea. The visitors survive a scare in the final seconds of the half as Thurrock free kick from some twenty yards out holds up in the wind and finds Jaffa in space but his side footed effort is wide of the post.

The second half sees Thurrock pressing for an equaliser but the Brightlingsea work rate and tempo doesn't waiver with the visitors continuing to break at pace and cause real problems for the Thurrock back line. Both teams were looking to knock the ball around and play some good football but Regent had the edge when it mattered. Thurrocks cause in looking for a late leveller wasn't helped when Ronnie Winn was shown a second yellow card with just three minutes remaining. Although Thurrock heads don't drop they could not find an equaliser and it was the visitors from North Road who held on to take the three points. This was a fantastic performance from Bightlingsea all over the pitch and was a credit to Webster and his staff arguably one of the best displays so far.
