The Planters bounced back from Saturday’s home defeat with an emphatic victory over a Brightlingsea Regent team that had won 3-0 at league leaders Phoenix Sports just three days earlier, all this despite being reduced to ten men late in the second half.
Tim Henery set the scoring underway in the sixth minute when he cut in from the wide on the left and beat two defenders as he moved along the 18 yard line before drilling his shot inside the near post.
Regent were causing problems for the home defence who stood firm limiting them to long range shots from Ricky Griggs, Aaron Condon and Tom Richardson.
The Planters increased their lead in the 34th minute when Cameron Norman hit a free kick from 25 yards out on the left into the net with goalkeeper Ollie Bowles rooted to the spot.
Henery and Adam Hipperson were now causing the visitors defence problems and the latter set up Henery whose shot was blocked behind for a corner. Hipperson then sent a deep free kick to Shaun Wones whose header was blocked.
Andy Wilton had to be alert just before the break punching clear off his line with two strikers converging fast.
Moments later the home side further increased their lead right on the stroke of half time. Regent gave the ball away from a throw in and Adam Hipperson took full advantage when he spotted Bowles off his line and hit an amazing lob from just inside his own half into the Regent goal.
After the break Hipperson saw a shot deflected wide for a corner and at the other end Jordan Blackwell suffered the same fate.
Regent were given a lifeline in the 76th minute when they were awarded a penalty, Aaron Condon duly converted but as the visitors tried to quickly get the ball back to the centre circle, Andy Wilton was involved in an incident which saw the referee show the Planters keeper a red card.
Andy Eastaugh took the gloves but had relatively little to do, and what he did he looked assured.
Despite the numerical disadvantage the Planters were still causing Regent problems on the break and Hipperson ended any doubts when he jinked into the area and shot home from an acute angle with just seven minutes remaining.
The win lifted the Planters back up to fourth in the table.
