Regent continue their impressive form with another good away win.

Brightlingsea Regent travelled to Aveley for their latest league game with both teams in good form, Regent winning four and drawing one in their last five whilst the home side had won four and lost one in their last five. Regent won this game deservedly so with a good attacking display which the home side struggled to contain at times.
Webster was dealt a blow before the game with a late call off due to injury to Ricky Griggs but did welcome back Jake Turner into the squad after his absence in last weeks game. Regent started the game well with Shamy Pedulu showing in the early stages what a threat he would be throughout the entire game with a positive run finding Terry Rymer but his shot was easily gathered. Regent took a deserved lead on 12 minutes after their good start, working the ball from a throw on the left across the pitch to Russell Malton, his pass found Phil Kelly who passed into Shamy Pedulu his run and perfect cross was superbly headed down into the bottom corner by Terry Rymer who made it 0-1. The home side looked to respond and a good run from the 11 saw his cross fired high over the bar from the edge of the area. Shamy Pedulu then broke forward again beyond the defender but his shot was deflected wide from a tight angle. More good attacking play saw Matt Cripps release Phil Kelly who drove into the heart of the home defence, his weighted pass was perfect for Shamy Pedulu but just as he was about to shoot from 8 yards he slipped. Ollie Bowles was then called into action saving acrobatically from the far corner at the expense of a corner. From the corner a looping header caught in the wind with Ollie Bowles expecting to wave it over the bar it bounced off the top of the bar and was cleared to safety. Handbags after a reaction to a Terry Rymer tackle saw Rymer and the Aveley number 6 both booked straight after. Phil Kelly again collecting a pass and driving deep into the home defence cutting back across the last defender but his shot was straight at the keeper. Good link up between the Aveley 7 and 11 saw the Aveley player brought down on the edge of the area but the resulting free kick from 7 Nash was comfortably saved by Ollie Bowles. Shamy Pedulu again continued to be a threat and another positive run saw his cross met by Rymer who laid to Luke Read but he couldn't control the shot which was bent high over the bar. Regent added to their lead on the stroke of half time when the number 5 didn't read the pass, Terry Rymer working hard to win the ball and pass to Matt Cripps who's perfect first time pass found Phil Kelly, he's finish was well executed beyond the advancing keeper to make it 0-2. HT 0-2
The home side started the half well now with the gaining wind helping them push Regent back. Ollie Bowles called into action on 48 minutes to save an effort. The home side went closer still hitting the post before the player following up was just unable to finish the rebound after missing the ball. A rather fortuitous but deserved goal saw the home side make it 1-2 on 61 minutes, Jake Gould appeared to be fouled by the 10 Elbi but he continued and his cross come shot beat Ollie Bowles from midway through the half on the right wing. Regent reacted superbly straight from the kick off, Shamy Pedulu beating the full back and crossing across the 6 yard box but nobody was there for an easy tap in. The R's didn't have to wait long and on 63 minutes regained their two goal advantage, a well flighted Josh Mayhew free kick was met by Josh Gould in front of the keeper to make it 1-3. Webster made his first change on 65 minutes with Jake Turner replacing Terry Rymer. The third goal had seemed to knock the stuffing out of the home side but they continued to press forward and good play on the edge of the area saw the ball worked to the right but the shot was dragged wide. A sublime pass from Josh Mayhew found Luke Read who controlled and shot but the keeper saved well from a tight angle. Phil Kelly was then played through and moved into the area but blazed over from 10 yards. Lamell Howell replaced Josh Mayhew on 75 minutes and then on 77 minutes Jake Clowsley replaced Phil Kelly. Jake Clowsley breaking forward and his cut back was met by Jake Turner but he didn't time his shot and the falling ball was met sweetly by Russell Malton on the half volley bending and striking the post before nestling in the net for 1-4 on 86 minutes. Regent looked like they would add to that lead with Lamell Howell and Jake Clowsley going close but it was the home side who scored the next and last goal. Matt Cripps tackling in the area and the ball hitting his arm as he was laid on the ground. Ollie Bowles saving the resulting penalty but the player scoring the rebound to make it 2-4 on 89 minutes. FT 2-4
A good performance and result for Regent in windy conditions against an always strong Aveley side that continues a fine run moving the R's up to 13th but with several games in hand.
