Brightlingsea Regent travelled to Redbridge for their latest league game looking to put the disappointment of their late postponement Saturday and defeat last Tuesday behind them. The hosts had done well to get the pitch playable for the game looking to extend their four game unbeaten run but it was Regent who got back to winning ways and in doing so moved up to 10th in the table.
The game started fairly evenly with both sides pressing forward. Phil Kelly did well to work a shot away which was just headed clear after a break saw him into the box. Jake Turner then saw his shot comfortably held as Regent looked for the first goal. The away side working their best chance in the opening stages with a direct ball headed on but as the midfielder ran through Regent were just able to put enough pressure on so that the shot was comfortable for Ollie Bowles. Regent took the lead on 18 minutes, a pass to Jake Clowsley who ran down the line before cutting back and delivering a quality ball which was headed back across the keeper from 10 yards by Phil Kelly to make it 0-1. The game continued to ebb and flow with Ollie Bowles saving a strike from 25 yards at the expense of a corner. Jake Clowsley then saw his strike from distance whistle over the bar from a fast break forward. The hosts went extremely close to an equaliser when Regent put a cleared pass straight into Redbridge possession who already had men committed forward, the number 9 for Redbridge collected the pass before seeing his lobbed shot rebound back off the post to Regent's relief. Regent nearly increased their lead before the interval with a Luke Read pass finding Terry Rymer but running towards the left side of the goal the home defence were able to put enough pressure to see his shot wide of the post. HT 0-1
The home team started the half well and pressed for an equaliser, Ollie Bowles tipping a shot over his bar to deny the home side. Ricky Griggs with a good block then deflected a shot over the Regent bar when it seemed the 7 for Redbridge could force an equaliser. Despite their good start it was Regent who made it 0-2 on 62 minutes. Positive play from Jake Clowsley saw him beat two defenders before it seemed the defender had thwarted his run but great tenacity from Jake saw him win the ball back and fire a shot under the advancing keeper who partially blocked it before Terry Rymer ran in to fire home. Regent nearly increased their lead when Phil Kelly was played through but after rounding the keeper he ran out of room and couldn't get his shot off before the defender was able to shepherd out for safety. Russell Malton showed the increasing pressure from the R's breaking forward and looking dangerous on a couple of occasions but the home defence were able to clear to safety. Webster made his first change on 75 minutes with Jake Gould replacing Josh Mayhew. The home side saw the number 8 fire wide after working a good position from just inside the area. Warren Joseph replaced Jake Clowsley on 80 minutes for Regent. Regent made it 0-3 on 88 minutes, Jake Turner winning a header which found Terry Rymer, he hit a first time shot which skidded off the surface from 25 yards to beat the keeper finding the far corner. Lamell Howell replacing Terry Rymer immediately after the goal in the final change for the R's. Regent nearly added to their lead in the final moments with Ricky Griggs seeing his strike from the edge of the area well saved after a good run forward before Phil Kelly fired over after the resulting corner was knocked down in the box. Warren Joseph produced a good run and cross which saw Phil Kelly go close again as the game finished in a heavy downpour. FT 0-3
A good win and response from Regent who worked hard on a tough pitch in difficult conditions once again to record an important win.
