On his 300th game James Webster was unable to celebrate as a first half goal sends his Regent to defeat.

Brightlingsea Regent travelled to Phoenix Sports for their latest league game and a historical game for the club as James Webster took charge for his 300th game. Sadly for Webster and the team he couldn't celebrate this achievement with a victory as a game of two half's saw Regent defeated after a poor first half saw them fall behind and despite dominating the second half Regent were unable to find a leveller and fell to a defeat.
Regent actually started the game well as Webster made just one change to the winning team from midweek with Warren Joseph unavailable meaning a return for skipper Matt Cripps who was rested midweek. The home side looked threatening in the early stages breaking quickly when Regent did go forward and despite a bright start Regent were soon pushed back. The number 11 for Phoenix making a good break forward and crossing the ball into the box where Regent were just able to clear. Moments later a break out of defence saw the home side break through the middle with Matt Cripps just able to clear, the home side appealing for a penalty as the ball struck Matt in the midriff. Another attack and another penalty appeal when the ball struck Jake Gould on the arm but from a yard it could never been given despite the large appeals. Half hour into the game and the home side took full advantage of a lucky break, a free kick awarded after another handball from Jake Gould 40 yards from goal. Jake Gould harshly yellow carded and the Referee making him leave the field as his tape covering a piercing had come off. The home side nearly scored from the kick with Regent down to 10 a superb block on the line denied the home side before a great stop from Daniel Beeson again denied them with the ball being cleared away. With Jake Gould still not able to return the home side again attacked down their right and this time the cross was punched by Daniel Beeson but the number 11 was first to react and smash home the ball into the bottom corner for 1-0 on 33 minutes. Much to the R's frustration the Referee now allowed Jake Gould to return after missing three minutes of play and the reasoning in that he shouldn't have entered the field with a piercing taped up or not, clearly this is part of the pre-match checks or not apparently. Ricky Griggs made a bursting run from his own half and passed to Josh Mayhew just outside the area but the shot was fired wide. HT 1-0
Webster made a change with Lamell Howell replacing Jason Dobbs and a change in shape. Regent dominated the half and pinned the home side back who looked dangerous on the break but even that faded as they defended manfully. Jake Turner producing a superb save from the keeper after great feet saw him wriggle free and his 25 yard effort was tipped over the bar. Lamell Howell almost pouncing on a weak back pass as he rounded the advancing keeper but from a tight angle he was only able to cross which the defence cleared. The home side then on a break worked the ball out to the right where Daniel Beeson saved the shot at his near post comfortably. The last two changes were made by Webster as first Brendon Heath replaced Josh Mayhew and soon after Kieron Baker replaced George Clarke. Regent then went close from a corner when Luke Read was first to the knock down but from 6 yards the keeper acrobatically tipped over the effort. Ricky Griggs and Luke Read then combined down the right before a perfect cross from Ricky which Phil Kelly judged but his first touch was loose and the chance from 8 yards was gone as the home defence were able to snuffle out the chance. Kieron Baker made a good run forward but again the defenders were able to clear his pass into Lamell Howell at the expense of a corner. The home side then on a break worked the ball out to the left with the cross just cleared by Jake Gould but the ball then crossed back into the box where Regent were just able to take from the head of the number 9. With time running out Matt Cripps strode forward but his shot from 30 yards whistled over the crossbar. FT 1-0
A frustrating performance from Regent who need to find their consistency through their work rate to start climbing the table.
