Regent hit for five

Brightlingsea Regent made the long trip to Dereham for their latest league game and came away with a heavy defeat after a lack lustre display which saw the game over inside 45 minutes. Webster was without Phil Kelly due to work commitments so was once again forced in to changes from the narrow defeat to Harlow Town.
The home side started the game well and a warning was not heeded after 2 minutes with a direct ball finding the winger against an exposed Jake Gould, on this occasion Regent were able to just clear. Just one minute later though the R's were not so fortunate, again the winger collecting the pass from deep to run at Jake Gould and his cross was gleefully tapped home at the back post to make it 1-0. Regent were passing the ball reasonably well and forced two corners which one of the said corners saw a header just cleared to safety by the home side but from the set pieces Regent looked horribly exposed and too slow to recover against the incisive home side. On 15 minutes another counter attack saw the home side cut Regent open, another quick break and this time the shot was blocked before the striker had the composure to slot the ball to the number 8 for Dereham who's run wasn't tracked and again he tapped home to make it 2-0. Once again Regent who had a reasonable share of possession looked to go forward and Matt Cripps twice strode forward but both times was only able to fire his effort wide. On 40 minutes Jake Turner received a yellow card when he was late and over the ball on a skiddy surface as he mistimed his tackle after winning the first tackle, the Referee rather fortunately favouring the yellow card. Regent despite a slightly better part of the half showed more naivety when they conceded two more before half time. Another incisive fast break saw the ball crossed in to the Regent box and a poor attempted clearance was hammered home to make it 3-0 on 43 minutes. On 45 minutes the home side got their cherry on the cake with a lovely finish from 22 yards which was bent in to the top far corner beyond Andrew Plummer for 4-0. HT 4-0
An improved half by the Regent but the game was well gone and still despite more possession they again showed too little willingness when recovering to stop the fast breaking home side. Webster made his first change on 56 minutes with Lamell Howell replacing Luke Milbourne. Regent did get a goal back on 60 minutes after good football down the right saw the cross from Jake Gordon finished off by Josh Mayhew for 4-1. Webster made his second change on 72 minutes with Russell Malton replacing George Clarke and despite looking like they could get a second goal back to try and exert some pressure too many times a poor final pass, cross or shot was costing the R's. Any possible hopes of a comeback of sorts were ended on 75 minutes when a cross from the left was contested and headed up but Andrew Plummer when collecting could only let the ball slide from his grip under pressure to see the ball fall into the corner for 5-1. Just moment later he made amends of sorts with a stunning save low to his right from a 20 yard strike. Webster made his final change with Kieron Baker replacing Jake Turner as Regent finished the game with plenty to correct. FT 5-1
A poor night for Regent with the result keeping them 16th in the early table.
