More positives but no points as Regent lose to Harlow.

Brightlingsea Regent welcomed Harlow Town to North Road on Saturday. Harlow, last seasons runners up had won their last three scoring 11 along the way whilst Regent were looking to bounce back from the disappointment of their FA Cup exit. The away side controlled the opening 30 minutes of the game but Regent after that point had a good share of the game and threatened the away defence with two big Refereeing decisions ultimately deciding the game in the away teams favour with an 80th minute winner.
Webster kept the same side that played midweek but did make minor changes in shape. It was the away side who started the game better against a tentative looking Regent. Harlow forcing a corner early with Dadson collecting the clearance but his shot from the edge of the area after a minute was wide. The away side went closer after 15 minutes when again Dadson collected the ball this time wide right before seeing his cross, shot flicking up against the crossbar and just cleared to safety by the Regent defence. The R's were struggling to find any real possession in the game and when able to it was coming to nothing with Harlow seeing much more possession. Harlow went closer still when Read controlled the ball in the box before clipping over the defender and volleying first time but once again this time the middle of the crossbar saved Regent. Regent again were under pressure but this time the shot from 10 yards was superbly blocked by Jake Gould. Phil Kelly was instrumental in getting the R's into the game and his clever play was allowing players to link up and Brendon Heath had a shot from the edge of the area but his effort was comfortably handled by the Harlow keeper. On 37 minutes the Referee amazingly decided that a clear back pass saved by the Harlow keeper was only a corner in one of many inconsistent decisions throughout the game. Jake Gordon's run and cross was met by Lamell Howell but once again the keeper was untroubled but a much better ending to the half for Regent. HT 0-0
Regent started the second half well and caused more problems to the away defence. Jake Gordon through on goal after 5 minutes with a Phil Kelly pass, with the keeper advancing off his line, Jake could only land his chip over the keeper but onto the roof of the net. Another good flowing move saw Luke Read break into the Harlow half and his shot from the edge of the area was blocked and therefore comfortably saved by the keeper. The away side shared the possession but struggled to create too much of note and Andrew Plummer was largely untroubled as Regent held their shape well. Lamell Howell from the edge of the area forcing the keeper into an acrobatic but comfortable save midway through the half. The away side looked a threat with some dangerous set pieces but again the R's were looking well drilled and the away side could not find an opening. Regent again were left frustrated by a Refereeing decision when Phil Kelly jinked past a player before being caught in the box for what looked a clear penalty, however the Referee felt differently, Harlow then able to clear the ball. Webster brought George Clarke on for Luke Read and Josh Mathew shortly after for Phil Kelly as the game continued to flow both ways. Melaugh who was the main threat for Harlow in the second half won a fortuitous free kick on 80 minutes which led to the winner. Laying on the ground obstructing the ball the Referee awarded a free kick, which he later declared was for a previous foul, although for 30 seconds whilst on the ground hadn't decided to blow the whistle he can only have I assume been looking for an advantage, not having played one of these all game though I'll let you decide the likeliness of this. From the free kick, Read glanced in the well flighted free kick into the far corner for 0-1. Webster made his final change with Kieron Baker replacing Lamell Howell but Regent were unable to create any openings. FT 0-1
A much improved performance against a strong Harlow side. After a slow opening 30 minutes which Harlow dominated the R's more than matched in the final 60 minutes and can count themselves a little unfortunate to not gain any points.
