A first half goal is enough to defeat the R's on the road.

Brightlingsea Regent travelled to Thurrock for their latest league game with the temperatures up and around 30 degrees a day more suited for the beach perhaps. The Ship Lane pitch was in good condition as per usual with Webster happy to have Lamell Howell back from injury but still without other injuries that have been missing since the start of the season. He made two changes from Tuesday's impressive win at AFC Sudbury with Ricky Griggs and Jake Turner replacing the unavailable Harry Johnson and Keiron Baker dropping to the bench. The home side had a free midweek and had been busy bringing in new signings in time for the game.
Andrew Plummer was the busiest of the keepers in the first half as the home side controlled much of the half. He made a good save after 5 minutes with a strong right hand to deny the home player. Just moment later another ball played in to the 10 saw him stride into the box but again Andrew Plummer did well to save at the expense of a corner. Regent struggled to get any fluidity in the game but they were denied what looked a good shout for a penalty after 15 minutes, Josh Mayhew collecting the ball from Jake Gordon and dragging the ball beyond the defender who looked to have pulled Josh down but the R's appeals were waved away. The home side moved the ball well with Regent too passive allowing them too much time, a misjudgement then at the back saw the 10 again free and striding into the box but again Andrew Plummer did superbly to deny him with a strong right hand to keep the scores level. The home side went even closer shortly after, Andrew Plummer saving the initial shot with the follow up cleared off the line from Josh Gould. Jake Gordon was the best outlet for Regent as they could only really muster any threat on the break and his direct running saw him out muscle the defence but his shot was just dragged wide of the near post. The home side then went close again but this time the crossbar denied them as their shot thudded against the bar. Regent changed shape and slight changes to try to get more control but still afforded the home team too much time on the ball and they took a deserved lead on 38 minutes. A short corner was cleared but again when returned the home play was allowed too much time and his hung up cross was headed back across and beyond Andrew Plummer into the far corner for 1-0. Finally this did see a reaction from Regent and they had their best spell till half time with Jake Gordon again going close but this time his shot was comfortably saved. Once again a strong penalty appeal for Regent was turned down with the Referee adjudging the foul was by George Clarke not the defender. HT 1-0
The second half was a quieter affair chances wise for the home side although again they started the better and a deft effort beat Andrew Plummer but the crossbar again came to the rescue for Regent. After 18 minutes of the half Webster made his first change with Luke Milbourne replacing Brendon Heath and Luke was straight into the play when he was brought down moving into a dangerous area, the 7 for the home side collecting a yellow card. A much more even half but Regent still struggled to find any real fluidity and Webster made his second change with Lamell Howell replacing Luke Read midway through the half. The weather seemed to have affected the game slightly with both sides struggling to create much of note but on 79 minutes the home side were reduced to 10 men after a second yellow card for the number 7 when he fouled Lamell Howell. Once again Regent now enjoyed their best spell at the end of the half with the man advantage and Webster made his final change with Russell Malton replacing Josh Mayhew. Josh Gould saw his acrobatic overhead kick saved comfortably by the home keeper as Regent looked for an equaliser. The home side then for once on the break nearly wrapped up the game but again Andrew Plummer saved with a strong hand and the defence were able to clear. The home keeper then made a very good reaction save when a Ricky Griggs shot was deflected and heading for the near post but his fingertip saved pushed it around the post. Regent created their best chance in the final moments, Matt Cripps doing well to collect the ball before moving forward and playing an inch perfect pass into the run of Jake Gordon but he took his shot early when through on goal and dragged his effort wide of the far post. FT 1-0
The home side ran out deserved winners as Regent suffered defeat but no time to dwell with another game coming Tuesday.
