Brightlingsea Regent were defeated for the first time in two months as a goal in each half secures three points for Thamesmead.

Brightlingsea Regent travelled to Thamesmead for their latest league game and came away defeated for the first time since the beginning of December. A dogged, hardworking, resolute defensive display from the home side with some poor officiating helping them secure the three points. Four goal line clearances and an inspired goalkeeping performance proving to be the difference.
Webster welcomed new signings Jake Gordon and George Clarke into the squad. Jake signing on dual registration from Chelmsford City is a young striker as is George Clarke who was previously at Needham Market.
The home side showed their intentions early with a very direct approach and the number 9 for the home side was winning a lot aerially as they looked for flicks in behind the Regent back four. One such long ball and flick found the number 10 but his shot came to nothing as Regent managed to scramble clear. After 15 minutes good pressure from Regent saw the keeper hurry his kick and fluff it straight to Russell Malton but he recovered to save the shot at the expense of a corner. The home side took the lead on 23 minutes from a corner. The build up to this saw the home player clearly push Matt Cripps in the back before Andrew Plummer tipped over the header after the push allowed him space for the header. From the corner the 10 was afforded too much space to guide his header into the back of the net for 1-0. A direct run and shot was then well saved by the home keeper who managed to get fingertips on the Phil Kelly shot. Good play through midfield saw Ben Newson played through into the box but from a tight angle he dragged his shot just wide. The home side nearly doubled their lead when another free header this time was comfortably saved by Andrew Plummer. HT 1-0
Regent had better control in the second half and had the lion share of possession but again were denied by the home defence who cleared off the line from a corner. After 60 minutes the home side doubled their lead against the run of play when Regent lost the ball cheaply in midfield and the number 9 bulldozed through the defence before poking the ball past Andrew Plummer. Webster made his first change with Jake Gordon replacing Phil Kelly. Jake Gordon was straight into the play with a positive run out wide beating players and into the penalty area but his cut back was cut out for a corner. From the corner the ball was worked to Russell Malton but again the home side did well to block and deny a clear shooting chance for Ben Newson. TJ Amass then replaced Russell Malton on 68 minutes as Webster made his second change. A dipping volley from Jordan Heath landed on the roof of the net on 70 minutes as Regent pushed for a way bank into the game. The home sides attacks were more sporadic but they did create a very good opening which Jake Gould did well to just put the number 8 off who skewed his shot wide of the post. Webster made his final change on 72 minutes with George Clarke replacing Jordan Heath and he was straight into the action setting up Jake Gordon who's turn and volley was well hit but straight at the keeper. George Clarke then saw his header cleared off the line after the initial header from Josh Gould from a Regent corner. Once again the home side cleared off the line this time from a Ollie Canfer as Regent exerted more pressure. To rather sum up the game a good pass from Jake Gordon was into the path of Ricky Griggs on the edge of the area but he was brought down to deny him. The Referee awarding a free kick for a foul but for the third game on the trot showing again that their has been a recent rule change at the FA with denying goalscoring opportunities no longer resulting in red cards. From the resulting free kick the home side manfully scrambled clear. FT 2-0
A dogged display from the home side who frustrated Regent who couldn't find a way to break them down and another hugely inconsistent frustrating display from the man in the middle.
