Brightlingsea Regent travelled to Romford at the home of Thurrock FC for the third time this season and came away again undefeated with a point, not quite at their best it was probably a good point all in and did move the R's up to 9th in the table.
Webster was without Phil Kelly who will be away all month and Russell Malton who after a family bereavement was unavailable, best wishes to Russell and his family in their difficult time.
Both sides started a little tentatively and the opening 10 minutes were fairly even but Regent gradually began to pressure the home defence and a Ollie Canfer header was clawed around the post by the keeper who was deputising for the regular Romford stopper. From the resulting corner again Ollie Canfer nearly scored but this time his header rebounded off the bar and was swept home by Jake Holman to make it 0-1 on 11 minutes. Regent had the lion share of possession now but were unable to create anything of real substance and after 31 minutes they were made to pay when a free kick from the right hand side of the box some 40 yards out went through a lot of bodies and squirmed into the bottom corner to make it 1-1. The home side clearly lifted by this were having a good spell in the game now and a flashing volley from 25 yards was just wide for what would have been a spectacular goal. HT 1-1
Again the 2nd half started fairly even but Webster was forced into a change after 54 minutes when Sean Bartlett replaced the injured Amir Berkane . Again it was Regent who regained the lead from another set piece. Jake Holman was denied this time but Jordan Heath was first to the rebound and he fired home to make it 1-2 on 56 minutes. The home team again responded and within 5 minutes were level, a direct ball was met by the striker just before the advancing Andrew Plummer and he poked the ball into the far corner to make it 2-2. The home side had an almost identical incident just moments later but this time the effort was just wide. The home side then saw two deflected shots from outside the box just fly over as they looked to go ahead in the game. Webster made his final two changes as he looked to get more control in the game and both sides looked like they may have a winner in them and in injury time Regent had the best opportunity. Ben Newson linking in after a great pass from Ollie Canfer and as he beat the defender and sat down the keeper in the penalty area, we all waited for the the ball to find the net but the stand in keeper did superbly to save and deny a late winner. FT 2-2
A fair result with both sides working hard during the 90 minutes to deny space.
