Regent defeated again despite another good display.

Brightlingsea Regent travelled to Ware FC for their latest league game and came away with no points despite another good performance from the Regent lads and with several key players more encouraging signs but no points to show for it.
Webster was unavailable for the game as was skipper Warren Joseph, Phil Kelly served the final game of his ban whilst Jake Gould was also serving a one game ban, Jake Holman was also unavailable and TJ Amass was still out through injury. All this meant a first senior start for 17 year old Charlie Durling and James Gregory was also given a start after being called back from FC Clacton.
Regent rather understandably started slowly and with all the personnel changes at the back gifted the home side an excellent chance to take an early lead, one pass dissected the back line and the Ware striker strode onto the ball but with only Luke to beat, bent his effort well wide much to the R's relief. Regent settled and began to get the ball down and were playing some good football on the slick surface after all the heavy rain overnight. After 18 minutes good interplay through midfield saw Luke Milbourne stride forward and his shot from 20 yards was just wide of the far post with the keeper struggling to get across. Russell Malton was leading the line well and his industry nearly fashioned a chance but the home defence were just able to clear. Luke Milbourne again saw an effort from distance just fire wide after more good interplay from Regent. The home side were a threat with their pace out wide and a good cross was met by the Ware number 10 but his volley was high over the bar from 10 yards. Good pressure from Russell Malton saw the home defender play a risky pass to the keeper which Charlie Durling intercepted but his touch around the keeper ran out of play on the slick surface and denied Regent a great chance. With time running out a cross from the Ware right looked to be collected by Luke Avenell but the alert number 9 nipped in front and his header clipped the post. HT 0-0
Regent got a great start to the second half taking the lead after 48 minutes, Ben Newson was fouled and Ricky Griggs bent a free-kick in to a great area and skipper Josh Gould flicked his header into the bottom far corner for 0-1. The home side made an immediate change and probably to try and wrestle more possession and the change had the desired affect. The home side were gaining more ball and work down their left saw them rewarded after 54 minutes, Josh Gould looked to be in control of the cross but as he went to clear he was bundled off the ball and it dropped perfectly for the Ware number 9 to fire home, the Referee unmoved despite the Regent protests. The goal clearly lifted the home side and they had much more threat when going forward but the makeshift back line were largely doing well but a mistake after 70 minutes ultimately cost Regent the game. A ball looked to be running out of play but the number 9 unlike Regent didn't switch off and fought to keep the ball on, they worked the ball out wide and the number 4 collected the cleared cross on the edge of the area and his shot was deflected past Luke Avenell to make it 2-1. Almost straight from the restart a pass from Charlie Durling and a good leave from Russell Malton found Ben Newson through on goal at the right side of the box but he dragged his shot wide. Sean Bartlett replaced Ben Newson as Regent changed their shape and shortly after Jack Johnson another youngster replaced Charlie Durling who had contributed well in his first start for the senior side. A short corner by the R's with Jack Johnson playing a good ball into the box that was met by Josh Gould and Amir Berkane met the flick but his header was straight at the keeper. The home side nearly increased their lead when a counter attack saw the Ware player's ferocious strike smash the crossbar from 20 yards. Regent forced a couple more corners and the home keeper could only punch up not away at the second time of asking but Matt Cripps could only head just over the bar. FT 2-1
A good game with both sides playing some attractive football, Regent again putting in another good display but coming away with nothing to show for it.
