Phil Kelly came off the bench to score the winner and give the R's a deserved three points.

Brightlingsea Regent travelled to Waltham Abbey for their latest league game and were looking to continue their recent form and bounce back also from the disappointment of the abandonment Tuesday against Romford. The home side had started the season well winning their first three league games but had stuttered recently whilst Regent after a tough start have begun to settle and play some good football as they adapt to life in the Ryman League. At the end of the game it was Regent who took the points and in doing so climbed to 19th in the early table and condemned the home side to a fifth successive league defeat in a game that saw five goals a red card and seven bookings but not one malicious or nasty tackle.
Webster was without skipper Warren Joseph for the game and made one change to the starting line up with Jake Turner returning to the starting team, Jake Gould dropping to the bench. The squad included under 18 skipper Jake Phillips who had impressed in the early under 18's games and was rewarded by Webster with a call up into the first team squad.
The R's started well and took just 2 minutes to gain the lead on " Non League Day" TJ Amass playing a ball forward and with the defender and goalkeeper dithering on who was going to clear, Russell Malton took full advantage by toe poking the ball and stabbing it into the far corner for 0-1. The home side struggled with the movement of Regent early on especially and a Ricky Griggs cross found Ben Newson in the box but he fired high over the bar from 15 yards. The home keeper then did well to deny Regent adding to their lead when Ricky Griggs was the wrong side of the home defence but his shot was smothered by the onrushing keeper. The home side were then literally given a present by the Referee who saw something that nobody else in the ground did when a back pass from TJ Amass saw Luke Avenell clear but with everybody looking at the ball the Referee adjudged a push and awarded a penalty despite not one appeal from the home side. The Waltham number 10 stepped up and despite a hand on the shot by Luke made it 1-1. This clearly gave the home side a lift and Regent were then forced into a substitution with TJ Amass unable to continue, Jake Gould coming on to replace him. The home number 9 fired wide after a good turn in the box but his shot was just wide of the post. To further frustrate Regent, Russell Malton was booked for diving after a good pass from Luke Milbourne saw him beat the defender before being tripped in the box, the Assistant Referee flagging for offside anyway but the Referee adjudged simulation. Luke Milbourne then made a good driving run through midfield but delayed his pass and the defenders did well to crowd him out and clear to safety. The home side looked a threat at set pieces with good deliveries but Regent defended them really well. in the 45th minute Regent took a deserved half-time lead when Ricky Griggs found Ben Newson who made a burst past the defender before cutting back to Luke Milbourne who's shot found the bottom far corner to make it 1-2. HT 1-2
The home side were better in the second half and made it much harder for Regent with an increased work rate, their equaliser came from a Regent set piece however. The home side clearing the ball and putting pressure on Amir Berkane who picked up the loose ball but good Waltham pressure saw a break and a powerful run down the right saw the cross slotted home to make it 2-2 after 56 minutes. Webster had to make his second change with Amir unable to carry on, Phil Kelly replacing Amir. Phil Kelly was straight into the action and a driving run saw him cross into the box but the home side were able to clear. Both sides were now attacking and the game was quite open with the game very much in the balance. Luke Avenell saving superbly after a corner was met by the home player who's shot was heading for the top corner before Luke acrobatically tipped over. Phil Kelly shortly after finding Ben Newson who again beat his defender before crossing but Russell Malton from 6 yards could only volley wide. After 78 minutes Regent won a corner after good work from Russell Malton, Phil Kelly powerfully heading home a Ricky Griggs corner to find the top corner and make it 2-3. Regent were shortly after reduced to 10 men when Jake Gould received a second yellow card after jumping for a header and colliding with the Waltham Abbey player, again the Referee surprising Regent with the decision, a foul, yes by way of a collision but very very harsh to deem it a yellow card. Webster made his final change with Jake Phillips coming on for his First team debut replacing Russell Malton. Regent had a great chance to finish the game with Phil Kelly timing his run to beat the back line and with the keeper advanced his chip was inches wide of the far post. The Referee then caused more controversy by overruling the Assistant to award a corner to the home team but Luke Avenell did well to clear. With more cards for both teams and 8 minutes of injury time the whistle was finally blown for an important three points for the R's. FT 2-3
A good game played in a good spirit with Regent running out the winners by the odd goal in five.
