Two first half goals for Aveley sink Regent.

Brightlingsea Regent played host to Aveley in their third game of the season and came away with no points after two first half goals for the away side saw them record their first win of the season. Webster was still without the injured Josh Gould and Phil Kelly, Jake Holman was also unavailable but he did welcome back new signing Russell Malton into the squad and made one change from the winning side midweek with Jack Sibbons replacing Jake Holman.
Regent started the game well and created a chance inside a minute when Ben Newson beat the Aveley full back before crossing into the box but hesitancy from the Regent strikers and the chance was spurned as the away defence managed to clear to safety. The R's looked threatening in the first 20 minutes but unfortunately for the home side this turned out to be the best spell in the game for them. Terry Rymer was played through and with the keeper advancing was only able to lift his effort straight into the keepers hands. The away side gradually began to settle and their new signing number 10 Stavrinou was becoming more influential and began to dictate the pace of the game and by doing this afforded Aveley control in the game. Good play through midfield from the away side saw them work an opportunity in the box but the strike was high over the bar. Regent then had a great chance to forge ahead after 25 minutes but the Aveley keeper did well to save, a clipped pass from inside the Aveley half found Sean Bartlett who took a great first touch past the defender but the keeper was quickly off his line and smothered well to deny Bartlett. After 32 minutes the away side took the lead. A weak free-kick was awarded to the away side and the number 2,Coyne took full advantage by firing into the bottom right hand corner to make it 0-1. This gave the away side more belief and they took more control in the game and Regent struggled to find any fluidity with their play and after 44 minutes the away side doubled their lead. A long throw into the box was contested but the knockdown was picked up by the Aveley number 7, Hopkins, who rifled his first time shot into the roof of the net to make it 0-2. HT 0-2
Again Regent looked to start the half well and forced an early corner after good link up play with Ben Newson and Terry Rymer but once again the away side were able to defend well and clear to safety. A rather dour second half in truth with Regent unable to find any real fluency in their play and the home crowd getting increasingly frustrated with some peculiar decisions from the match officials. The away side stayed solid and looked in control with neither keeper forced into a save in the half they were able to comfortably see out the game and record their first three points. FT 0-2
A flat performance from Regent after a good opening 20 minutes against an organised Aveley side who grew into the game and took full advantage of a very generous free-kick award and then took control to seal the points. Regent look to react with an away trip to Chatham Town on Tuesday.
