Two goals from Griggsy and a Kev Hughes header earns the Regent a comfortable win.

The Regent welcomed Halstead to North Road hoping to avenge a Boxing Day defeat. Despite some heavy rain in the week the Geez Terry had got the pitch in pretty decent order. With Morley banned and Philbo nursing a sore mouth from some wisdom surgery, Webster brought in Tevez and Wallis came back in from the bench. Hilly was back and Ross,Peter and keiron made up the bench. We started the game well and forced some early pressure on the away side but despite this it was them that nearly made the early breakthrough when Jake H smahed a clearance goalward but Sam did well to save. We won some corners and Griggsy flighted a couple of beauties in with Kev’s header being cleared off the line and then the resultant scramble somehow only produced another corner. Griggsy then went close with a mazy followed by a left foot curler which thudded against the bar. Not to be denied though midway through the half we took the lead when another Griggsy corner was headed superbly in to the corner giving the keeper no chance to make it 1-0. We began to play some nice pass and move football and Sambo after some of this could only manage to scuff his 20 yard effort. The away side tried to play out from the back and after great pressure from the forward boys we forced the keeper in to a mistake. He picked up a back pass with the Ref giving a free kick from 8 yards, Rymer placed his shot in the corner but a cool bit of defending cleared off the line with the follow up from Tevez high and wide. HT 1-0
The 2nd half continued in the same pattern and after 10 minutes we increased our lead when a great ball from Clarky found jinky Griggsy who beat the defenders before smashing in to the bottom corner to make it 2-0. Shortly after Webster replaced Gouldy who thought he ripped his own ring piece with his studs. He felt the need to inform all the bench but luckily he had checked and his rusty Sheriffs badge was still alright.. Maaaa, Keiron coming on. Hilly was also brought on for Clarky who had put a good shift in. Before the end we made it 3 when Rymer who was orchestrating a lot of our forward play found Griggsy who capped a great display beating the keeper to make it 3-0. Ft 3-0
A good hard working team performance, with some good individual displays. Rymer was a bit gutted to miss out on MOM but had to make do with a spoon from Pitty in the bar. Clarky was put in charge of pre- match music and I don’t think this mistake will happen again, with the choice of Westlife or Garage/hardcore seeming a poor one. Webster and Morley were proper jell on the bench slamming Tom’s hat and not allowing him to wear it, although now missing I’m sure they will be seen out wearing it.. Nice
