We entertained tilbury this evening in the 4th round of the Essex senior cup. After having been in good league form and then slumping to a 4-0 defeat at the weekend against the league leaders we were hoping for a bit of bouncebackability and a good attitude to give the Ryman outfit a good test.
After a decent warm up and everyone seemingly buzzing we started brightly, matching the, all over the park for work rate, and in bits kept the ball well but tilbury gave us little time early on.
Tilbury nearly took the lead when a cross from the left found there number 10 who in one movement showed a great touch and turn to smash on the volley against the bar.
We settled after this and came into the game, Ricky Griggs tormenting there left back time and time again and forcing there keeper into some decent saves.
For all our endeavour however and pressure we created few clear cut chances as our final Ball wasn't quite there.
we came in at half time 0-0 and felt we had been the better side.
We knew the second half would be much harder as tilbury came at us but to be honest I think we were the better side for much of the second half. Tilbury hit the woodwork again in the 60th minute with a 30 yard deflected strike but other than that seldom troubled us.
We continued to play and got into some great areas with just our final ball not coming off or slightly letting us down.
As a tense game drew towards the end a great through ball down the left found Philbo in and with a great touch and pace he moved into the 18 yard box, what seemed like an eternity he waited for the keeper to move and them cooly slotted between his legs and into theback of the net ad 1-0
The last moments saw the, push but It was too little too late as we finished the game with super sub baker fluffing his pass in the corner of the pitch for his first touch.
A fret performance a d everyone understandably buzzing..........some great individual performances with tireless unselfish work from clarky, Griggs and Philbo were great outballs , the midfield 3 awesome and the back 4 as good as I've seen them play with a man of the match performance from left back jake Gould who didn't stop all day.
Dream tie col united at home next and we would be flying........deeeeeccccceeeennnnnntt!!!!
