a chance to put the horror of Saturday behind us today as we entertained Takely in the essex senior cup. With a change to our shape slightly moving to 4-3-3 it gave other players a run out and some fresh legs came in.
After a much brighter warm up we started OK but TAkely came out of the traps quickly and pushed us hard keeping the ball better in the early stages.
We were equal to it though in terms of work rate and got our reward when in the 20th minute the ball broke kindly to beard who took the ball forward and released Rymer in one on one with a clever run and making no mistake curled passed the keeper from 20 yards to make it 1-0, boom.
We grew into the game after this and started to keep the ball better and extended our lead further when again the ball broke to beard out wide left as he drove in field he smashed the ball with his lefty benson from fully 25 yards and it lashed off the floor into the bottom corner to make it 2-0.
I feel into half time we controlled the game and played some great stuff, a neat one two with Morley and Rymer nearly paying dividends as a Rymer shot smashed the post.
So 2-0 at half time and we knew we had to defend well and give nothing easy away. To be fair second half TAkely came at us again but we defended resolutely and worked hard to match them all over the park.
We created a few further half chances Rymer, Morley and beard all missing from distanced shots.
In the closing stages we were nearly undone as there striker got between Mansfield and Hughes and Mansfield brought down there striker outside the box but was only booked, there free kick was smashed 18 miles over but think we got away with that slightly.
So the game finished 2-0 and a good solid performance perhaps the first where collectively we have all worked for 90 minutes against a good fit TAkely side who will no doubt do well in there league.
Highlights of the evening included Jake asking grids why he would ever dream of having a a machine at home (fax machine) Jake, meadows funny sausage fingers gracing his presence, and the miraculous recovery of the striker in the firs half 'praise the lord he's gonna be ok' hahahah.
Let's hope Saturday we can continue this form and look to bounce back in the league.
