A bad day at th office all round today as we entertained an in form March side. With Griggsy off to Kuwait for a new job as a teacher it was Beesons chance to grab his first team place back, however for reasons unknown Beeson didnt turn up and after the team sheet submission it was too later to add another Goalkeeper leaving Salts to step up and go between sticks, that coupled with Harry pulling up with an injury in the warm up and Gaz being stopped play by the reserve manager we wnet from 15 players to 13 and no goal keeper in the space of 20 minutes.
Having to change the complete side around 5 minutes before it was still a chance for some to stake a claim.
However due to the poor preperation we started terribly and March scored within the first 5 minutes catching us on the break and defensively failing to clear the ball as we were at sixes and sevens there striker latched onto a ball and smashed in one movement in off the post, no chance for Salts.
We did settle into the game after this and i think for the rest of the half matched there industry and work rate even if we didnt keep the ball especially well.
We got our just rewards when Rymer played a defence splitting ball on 30 minutes through there centre half and full back for Beardo to run onto and an acute angle slot home in off the near post to make it 1-1.
So 1-1 at half time and i think we were all happy with how things had gone on what had been a miserable day to this point.
Second half we looked like we had run out of steam as they outworked us in every department, we hung on for the first 10-15 minutes but they grew in confidence and took the lead when a ball crossed from the left missed everyone across the line and there striker bundled over the line to make it 2-1, a sloppy goal but it was coming.
They got a 3rd shortly after when yet more defensive indecision left Hughes caught behind there striker and duly tripped him for March to be awarded a penalty, they made no mistake to make it 3-1.
We did create a few other minor chances, Luke Hughes going close, but with sub Hilly coming on and then pulling a hamstring the day was done as we finished with 10 men for the last 15 minutes.
so the game finished 3-1 and they had deserved there win in all respects, there number 10 (superba in the air) and there number 7 out wide left had caused us problems all game which we had failed to cope with.
I think alot can be learned from todays mishap from a club point of view especially with the management and players and look to bounce back in the cup against Takely on tuesday eveining.
Highlights of the day albeit a few, included us having to borrow there keepers spare gloves (sunday morning stuff), Alan's regailed tales of 75 driving lessons, what a legend, and Hilly being proud of the fact that he shaves his legs - hes had a mare there.
