Clean sheet today as we consolidatedfrom saturdays poor first half showing................

With our 2nd game in 4 days it was a chance to make amense today as we entertained Cornard United at home.
Unsurprisingly with Gazza and Robbo now in charge it was pretty much a re rerun of a border league encounter last year with much of the Holland and Wormingford players migrating upthe road to Cornard.

We started 4-4-2 with Griggs, Jake, Jake, Kev, warren, Philbo, Hilly, Salts, Holman, Rymer and Deano and the rest on the bench, with Beardo, Hughes, Morley, Wallis all missing.

We started the game brightly and set about Cornard giving them little time to play. Both teams struggled in the first 10 minutes to carve out a real chance due to the slippery wet conditions and both teams work ethic.

We looked resolute though and marshalled by an Impressive Hughes gave little away at the back. We did create a few early chances with Rymer playing a 60 yard ball of dreams onto Deano running back post only to volley wide, Rymer also went close working the keeper from the left after good work from sam and Philbo Philpott.

The break through came for us on the 35 minute mark when Deano swung in a low corner with Pace, the ball then flew around the box as Cornard failed to clear it and as it fell to Hughes he swept a volley home with his shinpad to make it 1-0.

Main highlight of the evening included Clarky trying to convince everyone he didnt wear a vest all weekend like Victor Meldrew at V festival - Ave a word son!!!

This settled us down and we started to play however some poor game management nearly let them in on the stroke of half time but we got in 1-0 and probably the happier of the 2 sides on reflection.

The seocond half was similar to the first, Cornard to be fair had a 20 minute spell where they put us under good pressure having a string of corners and free kicks without ever massively troubling us, Griggsy having little to do throughout and rearely being called into action, although in the most part this was down to the heroic defending of Holman and Hughes who are already forming a formiddable partnership at centre half.

After making several changes the game got stretched as tired legs crept in and we had a feeeww chances to make it 2, Rymer, Philbo, Holman all shooting but finding the keeper or smashing wide.

We made it 2 though with 2 minutes to go, when a long kick from Griggsy was flicked on with a 50p head by Philbo, Rymer latched on to it and after squaring up his man from 12 yards and an acute angle smashed the ball into the top right corner as the keeper could only stand and watch (take a bow son).

So the game finished 2-0 and a good 3 points and more importantly clean sheet which we got used to doing last season, may there be many to come!!!

No game at the weekend as the squad prepare for Cole the goals wedding which could be a messy affair, next game a chance for some players to stake a claim in the starting line up with a friendly at North road against the Border league rep side followed by 2 cup games in the shape of Cornard and Stanway..................Yeah Boi

Highlights of the game included Clarky trying to convince everyone he hadnt worn a vest all weekend like Victor Meldrew at the V festival - Ave a word son!!!
