We travelled away today for the longest trip of the season away v Fakenham..............

We travelled away for our first game of the new Campaign for our longest trip also away to Fakenham, a total of a 189 mile round trip, With high hopes we set off early hiring a coach for the day and taking much of the committee with us including Club Chairman Terry Doherty and Main sponsor Carl Barnard from Barnard Contracts. A total of 2 and half hours up the road we arrived at 1.15 having asked Fakenham already to start early at 2pm due to the fundraising Casino night we had planned for the evening.
Anyway after a decent warm up we lined up 4-4-2 playing Griggsy, Jake, Jake, Kev, Warren, Morley, Sam H, Hilly, Clarky, Deano and Rymer leaving no less than 7 to chose from on the bench. We started very brightly and kept the ball well in the early stages creating an early chance for Deano who air kicked at the back post, shortly after Rymer got in when Hilly launched a mesmerising 50 yard pass in behind their back 4, Rymer jinked back inside but shot at the keeper who saved it as he dived the other way.
They came into the game in the next 15 minutes and we got lucky as Kev and Jake went up for the same ball flicking into their strikers path only for him to find the side netting.
As half time approached we lost the ball in midfield and they played a clever ball between centre backs, as warren covered sliding in, there striker dropped his shoulder and moved inside before smashing home into the bottom corner and make it 1-0 right on the stroke of half time and probably against the run of play.
The second half we continued to try and play football but it wasn’t quite working in the final third, with some final balls going astray and our finishing letting us down. Rymer carved out 2 further chances only to be stopped by great defensive work and goalkeeping, second half substitute Philbo got in 1 on 1 only to be stopped again by their keeper and Clarky also worked the keeper smashing down into the bottom corner.
The last 10 minutes we were camped in there half and with corner after corner couldn’t find an equaliser and they eventually broke out and saw the game out in our corner flag area.
So we lost the game 1-0 when perhaps we should have taken 1 point if not all 3, and a valuable lesson learnt as we look to find our feet at this standard.
Players now need to pick themselves up for our next game as we look to get back to winning ways!
Man of the match this week awarded to Kev Hughes who on his full league debut was everything you would expect from someone with his experience. Highlights of the day included powerful Alan on the coach telling us about his snoozes along Brightlingsea hard, Meadows struggling to play a 3 year olds computer game (curse of monkey island) and Hannah’s cackle the whole way there and back (feeeeww miles).

And to be fair not even the skinny shorts modelled by Sam Holman we had to wear because of a kit clash could help us!!!
