We hosted the A V Lee Memorial trophy this evening at North road which is usually betwene the Border league Premier division Champions (brightingsea regent) and the Border League cup winners (west Bergholt).
With the fascitlity now almost complete, al bar the showers fully functioning it was a good opportunity for people to come and see the effort put in by all at the club in pre season.
On the pitch we had a pretty much full strength side with the esxceptions of club captain Joseph, Luke Hughes and Coley calling off late as his car didnt make it.......
We lined up 4-4-2 and to be fair after a decent warm upand everyone clearly up for theg ame we started brightly and kept the ball really well, disctating the pace of the game.
It didnt take long for us to take the lead when a Gould through ball caused a mix up between there 2 centre backs and the ball fell kindly for Rymeeeerrr to run onto and slot past a keeper in no mans land.
This settled us and we played some good football throughout changing the pace of the game well and creating other chances but failing to take them, Deano coming closest after a great through ball from Salter.
We went in 1-0 at half time but everyone please with the performance against a good Bergholt side. To be fair they had a few chances missing at the far post with a free header.
We came out in second half and again started well, We made it 2 when great work outside from Deano knocked a half volley cross into the path of Morley to noddle down and into the bottom corner....
We took control at this point as i think Bergholts heads went down.
2 became 3 when a Gould launch forward was tirelessly chased by Rymer who again upset there centre half and cooly lobbed there keeper from 30 yards 3-0.
3 Became 4 when we were awarded a free kick 30 ayrds out in front of goal. Rymer stepped up and smashed a Ronaldo like free kick up and over the wall and into the bottom corner as there keeper could only stand and watch.
Towards the end of the game we got our 5th when Beardo and Rymer linked well and Beardo squared for Rymer to smash into the bottom bins and see the game out 5-0 winners.
Some good all round performances with Griggsy making a wonder save in the first half and having solid handling throughout, defensively looking strong and always a threat coming forward with pace in abundance.
Tonight was a good time for people to show a performance and stake a claim for there place in the squad on saturday and follow on from the positive result at Woodbridge.
Highlights of the evening included Salter getting murked cos he says Geez to much like an el Tel wannabe, Webster writing Shoots on the board???, There centre half Gibbo calling for the ball like Chewbacca from Star wars hahaha, Oh and Jake thinking they had kicked off before the game when they were all standing in a circle playing keep ball (first one of many to come from him haha).
Saturday coach leaves at 10:15 away v Fakenham for our first league game of the season....................Boom cant wait!
