A more than dissapointing result today............

We travelled to Cornard united today in The Ridgeons division 1 knockut cup and hope for a good cup run to bolster our positive start in the league.
With Philbo, Hilly, Coley, wallis all unavailable for one reason or another it gave chances and starts Clarky, Beardo and Salter.

We didnt start well in a really scrappy game, the ball spending most of the time in the air and us failing to string more than 5 passes together. Rymer, Beardo and Clarky did combine early on too create an early chance but the keeper wasnt troubled.

We rarely looked troubled in the first 30 minutes but when they broke down the right in the 40th minute and crossed a low ball into the box, big centre half hughes was adjudged to have brought down there player from behind (much to the surpise of both sides) the ref awarded a penalty which they duly converted 1-0 down at half time and a dissapointing show against a cronard side who had worked us hard and created a few chances of there own.

Second half we were better and came out of the blocks quicker, and after making some forced changes got our just deserts when a deano cross to the back post was met by a salmon like towerin Hughes to noddle in at the far post 1-1.

The remainder of the half the game could have gone both ways as it became strectehd and both teams had chances, Rymer with the best of them at the death played in 1 on 1 only to fluff his lines!!

Extra time and we started more brightly, and after some good forward play Rymer rode through 3 challenges after great tenasity and found himself in front of the keeper to calmly slot in and make it 2-1.

You would think we would see out the last 15 minutes but second half we got very tired and very stretched and had too many players the wrong side of the ball as a clever ball and run found them in one on one, griggsy came flying out but misjudged the kick as there striker drifted past him and tapped into an empty net.

So the game went to penalties, which on reflection was probably fair as dont think either team was good enough to outright win it.

Rymer scored first for us and Griggsy saved there first, Warren then scored, but Morley missed before Hughes scored and then it was left to Jakey to settle us but there keeper saved low to his left and they scored to win the game.

A dissapointing result on a really hot day and very big wide pitch which we failed to deal properly with.
Highlights of the day included Grids calling club captain Joseph WARRY hahaha, J Gould telling us how hard it is to take a throw in, Tony coming all the way to Cornard and only being able to drink non alcoholic cider hahahah and Tashchanging her outfit 3 times during one match.

As Millie said on the way home, my friends didnt play fair today and give each other the ball and then everyone was unhappy!!!
