Brightlingsea Regent hosted National League South Opposition on Tuesday Night at the Taydal Stadium.
The visitors started the brightest of the two as Regent set up with a strong side. New R's Keeper was called into action twice, first from a low speculative effort and shortly after from a moving free kick.
Regent got into the game and started creating chances themselves, in the 18th minute the R's won a corner, which was swung in by Kevin Coyle and pin pointed the rising head of Pip Boyland at the back post, but his effort was touched over.
Regent kept going and coming forward, on the half hour mark, Tom Richardson was brought down on the edge of the box, Kevin Coyle took the kick and shot low under the jumping wall but was unable to find the corner.
The first half came to an end with Brightlingsea Regent satisfied with their performance at the break. HT 0-0
Chelmsford came out in the second half with real attacking prowess. The deadlock was broken with 50 minutes on the clock, after winning a corner, the delivery was an accurate one by Michael West meeting the downward head of Michael Spillane giving Nick Punter no chance and putting the visitors in front. 0-1
Regent did however level the score, after Chelmsford decided to change their entire 11 on the hour mark. 5 minutes later the R's were awarded a penalty when Josh Gould was wrestled to the ground from a corner. Aaron Condon stepped up and duly dispatched. 1-1
The scores stayed level for just 6 minutes as the visitors regained the lead, Hugo Skepelhorn reacted quickly to a through ball and got himself in front of Punters goal as he curled his shot past him. 1-2
The result was confirmed in the dying minutes as Kane Haysman slotted home past young substitute goalkeeper Dillon O'Connor. FT 1-3
Overall lots of positives for Regent, a good workout and large periods the players showed they can compete with higher level opposition.
