Regent travelled to Newmarket Town to play their Semi-Final which had been postponed on Saturday due to the snow, the pitch was in very good condition especially considering the recent weather. Webster had a full squad to choose from with Dan Beeson returning from his ban and Charlie Thompson back in the squad after his recent injury. We started the game well and created a couple of early good chances, both of these fell to Rymer who's first effort was wide but his second was well saved by the home keeper. Newmarket had their best chance of the half 20 minutes in from a corner but the header was superbly gathered by Dan Beeson. Jamie Clark was next to go close but his shot from the edge of the box was again just wide. Kevin Hughes then saw his header cleared off the line from a Ricky Griggs corner. Jamie Clark then received a bang on the side of his head which by the end of the game saw his ear look like he'd been in a UFC fight. After 42 minutes Regent took a deserved lead, Ryan Salter played a pass into Terry Rymer who's run was timed well before he held off the defender, he then cut inside and bent the ball into the bottom corner to make it 0-1. HT 0-1
The second half started well for Regent and they were passing the ball better and controlling the game and were rewarded after 60 minutes with a second goal. Sam Holman won the ball in midfield before passing to Phil Kelly who glided along and played in Terry Rymer who's first time left footed shot found the bottom corner to make it 0-2. Newmarket tried to get back in the game but Regent were defending well and restricted the home side to long range efforts which failed to work Dan Beeson. Newmarket changed formation to try and find a way back into the game but this left more gaps for Regent and after 78 minutes Ricky Griggs made the game safe. He collected the ball before beating two defenders in the box and finding the bottom corner to make it 0-3. Regent created two more half chances but substitutes Scott Page and Liam Whittaker were just unable to get a final touch on the ball. Liam Whittaker then saw his free-kick go just wide and with no further goals it ended FT 0-3
A very good performance by the lads who largely controlled the game and earned a good win which sees them into the final where they will meet Ipswich Wanderers or Gt Yarmouth who play in the other semi-final on Saturday. The final is scheduled to be played on Friday 3rd May with the venue to be confirmed.
