Regent earn a point with a couple of key players missing against CUP.

Regent travelled to Histon for their latest League game to take on 2nd placed Cambridge University Press, ironically the team who Regent beat back in September to begin their 19 game unbeaten run in the League which has seen them in the promotion places and with 6 games remaining knowing 9 points would all but guarantee step 5 football next season. Webster was without Ryan Salter who was still unavailable and Ricky Griggs who was still unavailable through illness. A couple of changes were made with Keiron Baker and Liam Whittaker coming into the starting line up. Regent started the game well and had the better of the early exchanges. The CUP keeper did well after a couple of minutes to come out and smother at the feet of Phil Kelly. Regent took a deserved lead after 15 minutes, Terry Rymer and Liam Whittaker linking up well before Liam Whittaker crossed to Terry Rymer who's header found the bottom corner to make it 0-1. Cambridge gradually came into the game and after 25 minutes were close to an equaliser with a dipping effort from 25 yards that thudded against the bar before being cleared. After 30 minutes Dan Beeson made a superb save from a CUP free kick from 25 yards that was heading for the top bins. The game was end to end in a very good half and Regent went close to increasing their lead but again the home keeper came out to smother Phil Kelly's shot after he'd beaten 3 players. After 40 minutes it was level, this time Dan Beeson was beaten from 20 yards with a great effort that found the bottom corner for 1-1. CUP pressed hard and had Regent under pressure but it was Regent who nearly retook the lead before half time when Terry Rymer was played in on the right hand side but once again the home keeper came out and saved the shot to deny Regent. HT1-1
CUP started the half well and forced an early corner, the ball was headed down with the shot heading for the top corner,Jake Gould did superbly to head up and over the bar. Sam Holman then linked up well on the edge of the area but his shot was high over the bar. Kevin Hughes then twice went close but both of his headers were fractionally over the bar. CUP again forced Dan Beeson into a good save when he came rushing out to deny the home side taking the lead. As the half went on Regent created a couple of half chances but on both occasions firstly Phil Kelly couldn't work the keeper and the substitute Ashley Sauka found the side netting. The second half never lived up to the first half but a fair result in the end with CUP having the better of the play but Regent edging it on chances. FT 1-1
A result which sees both teams losing ground on Newmarket but keeping both in the promotion places with Regent 7 points clear of 4th place,so 5 games to go and all still to play for.
