PHILBO HAT TRICK BACKS UP REGENT’S LATE PROMOTION PUSH

Brightlingsea out classed Ipswich Wanderers with a excellent 1st half performance that saw us put 3 past the suffolk side without reply. Wanderers made a game of it 2nd half but it was too little too late as the points where won in first 45 minutes such was Regents dominance.

So finally we got playing,Webster was with out injured Jules (ankle), Pagey (Ankle), Charlie (head) and his assistant Tom (Man Flu). Ritchie Meadows was call up to first team after impressing in the Wivenhoe friendly and youngster Charlie Durling made his debut for the club 1 week after turning 16.

The game started at a tempo high tempo and although our warm up was a little flat it was Regent setting this high pace of the game. It didn’t take long for this early pressure to pay off as on the 8th minute a pinged ball form Skipper Joseph into the path of Ricky who beat the covering defender and wiped in a first time cross to Philbo who received the ball with his back to goal, he dropped his shoulder beat the defender and toe poked into the corner with a great finish.

By this point it was all Brightlingsea, Ipswich were working hard and defended well for a 10 minute period before consecutive corners from Griggs saw the ball scrambling around the visitors penalty box before Jake ‘fox box’ Holman scored our 2nd and his 5th of the season.

Then 10 minutes before the break we made it 3 some sublime build up play that culminated in Warren putting a deep cross in to the area. Wanderers keeper Ryan came out to punch the ball clear but Kelly beat him to the ball and cooly slotted through the legs of hapless goal keeper.

Second half started at a similar pace to the first although to was the visitors this time putting the early pressure on the Regent defense, the introduction of 3 half time substitute seemed to be paying off. It was sub Heathcote who had there first real chance as he was slipped in to break the regent defense line but for a smart save from Beeson tipping on to the post.

Then against the run of play we put the tie to bed again a slick move from back to front found Ricky who had his shot blocked only for the ball to fall kindly for Phil to completed a excellent hat trick from outside the box finding the bottom far corner of the visitors goal 4-0

Ipswich pulled a goal back when a slip from Kev let Jennings in on goal he finished with aplomb giving Beeson no chance. This gave them a big lift and we had to work hard to keep attempts to a minimum however the assistant referee gave a penalty for a foul on Heathcote that looked like it was out side the box & probably should have been a free kick.

Ipswich Skipper Smith stepped up and clinically despatched sending Dan the wrong way again this gave Wanderers a second wind and for a 10/15 minute spell we had to battle hard to not let them back into the game. After there spell of possession we saw the match out and eased to the final whistle.
