Regent went into the final day knowing that promotion was secured and with an outside chance of grabbing runners-up but at the end had to be happy with 3rd place. Webster was still without the injured Scott Page and Ryan Salter and Dan Beeson who was serving a 1 game ban. This meant litte legs Mark Gridley coming in between the sticks for his First team debut. Regent started the game reasonably well and had the better of the early exchanges but Mark Gridley was the first keeper called into action and despite his wobbly legs he managed to save the routine shot comfortably. Regent took the lead with a well worked goal when Sam Holman collected the ball and played a one-two with Ricky Griggs on the edge of the area before passing into the back of the net for 1-0. Saffron came into the game more as the half went on but were unable to work Mark Gridley in the home goal but Regent were creating a lot of there own problems by being sloppy in possession. HT 1-0
Regent started the second half well and created a couple of golden opportunities to increase the lead but on both occasions fluffed their lines. Kevin Hughes from a Ricky Griggs corner could only head his free header wide and Phil Kelly also missed a free header from 6 yards when he didn't get enough purchase on his effort. It was an even game which had a little bit of an end of season feel about it and despite the away side holding their own they were unable to work Mark Gridley although when he was called into action he did well punching a corner to safety. With 8 minutes left the away side did manage an equaliser when their substitute was allowed to roam through our midfield and defence before playing a one, two and firing into the bottom corner for 1-1. Neither side were able to create a chance to win the game so had to settle for a point each. FT 1-1
A great season for Regent who will now play their football in the Premier Division next season after only 2 seasons back at step 6 football, a great achievement by Webster his team and the lads. Terry the geezer was so happy he got straight on it and in to town on the beers and was seen doing some unbelievable dancing in Bar 10, ballerina like!! 1 game left still for the lads though so 13 days to prepare for the First Division KO Cup Final at Diss Town FC on Friday May 10th.
