Regent made the long journey to Gt Yarmouth on Saturday to play our latest league game. Webster running late as usual was not allowed to leave until his Mummy had brushed his hair, banter. Regent were without Ryan Salter and Ricky Griggs was only well enough to take a place on the bench. The pitch was bone hard and with the costal wind it really didn't make for a great game of football with it being almost impossible to gather the ball under control. The home side adapted to the conditions much quicker and took an early lead. Jamie Clark was fouled in midfield but with the Regent players static and waiting for the Referee's whistle the home midfielder took full advantage and his speculative shot took a deflection before squirming past Dan Beeson who let it slip from his grasp. Dan Beeson soon made amends and saved superbly from a header to deny the home side. After the opening 20 minutes Regent finally began to cope with the conditions and created numerous good chances with a hopeful ball bouncing over the keepers head he just clawed it away and somehow saved Scott Page's follow up. Kevin Hughes then headed towards goal but again Ashley Sauka was denied. Scott Page was then played through but the keeper saved well from 6 yards and with Scott being pulled and pushed as he shot it was a surprise that again no decision from the Ref. Terry Rymer was then played in by a quality pass from Sam Holman but he dragged his left foot shot wide. HT 1-0
Again the 2nd half was scrappy and not at all pleasing on the eye. Dan Beeson saved superbly halfway through the half to once again deny the home side increasing their lead. Regent continued to try and force an equaliser without being able to find that final bit of quality but with all substitutions made Regent finally got a deserved equaliser. Jamie Clark's throw was headed on by Kevin Hughes to Keiron Baker who set back for Sam Holman on the edge of the box, he struck a sweet shot to find the top bins and make it 1-1 after 85 minutes to much celebration. In the dying minutes Regent nearly found a winner when Dan Beeson's kick was inches wide of the far post with nobody able to find a vital touch. FT 1-1
A fair result that really was in difficult conditions but once again the lads showed great character and attitude to find a way to get a result. With 6 games to go it is still very much in the Regents hands as to whether they will be playing step 5 football next season. Jake Gould sat in the clubhouse after thinking he was settling down to watch highlights off the Grand National but took 5 minutes to realise it was actually the Formula 1!! " I thought they were going quick " said Jake. Meeerrrrrrrrr. Baker was a naughty/good boy when he acquired the lads some Burger King vouchers.
