Another big away win keeps Regent in the promotion places.

After 2 postponements Regent finally got back in League action with a midweek trip to Cornard United. Webster had a full squad available bar the 2 Charlie's, Thompson and Durling through injury and Dan Beeson serving the final game of his 2 game ban with Darren Moyes once again stepping in between the posts. Mosey was especially looking forward to this game, sharpening his nails for Symesy although he might have been better to sharpen us his dress sense ( see picture ) That is when Chris decided to turn up, leaving everyone locked out of the ground till 6.50pm! Scott Page and Kieron Baker came into the starting line up replacing Ryan Salter and Jake Gould who dropped to the bench. Regent started well and were immediately on the front foot with the home keeper being thankful that Phil Kelly's early shot was straight at him. After 10 minutes Regent took the lead, good movement saw the ball crossed into the box with Cornard blocking the initial shot, Ricky Griggs saw his shot smash against the bar with the ball bouncing off and hitting a Cornard hand. The Referee awarded a penalty which Jamie Clark scored sending the keeper the wrong way to make it 0-1. After 15 minutes we increased our lead, some more good build up play and movement found Terry Rymer who's pass was perfect for Phil Kelly, his first touch took him past the defender before he side footed home to make it 0-2. The keeper then saved well from Phil Kelly, tipping his 20 yard shot round the post. A marauding run from Kieron Baker then saw us win another penalty when he was upended in the box. Terry Rymer this time stepped up and once again sent the keeper the wrong way to make it 0-3. Regent were playing some excellent football and after a move starting from the back 12-15 passes later Ricky Griggs crossed for Scott Page but his half volley from 6 yards was over the bar. HT 0-3
Fair play to Cornard as a man in the 2nd half they worked tirelessly to make it a more even game but it was still Regent who created the chances with the keeper again saving superbly to deny Phil Kelly from 25 yards. The home keeper again saved well when Kieron Baker kept the ball alive at a corner but from 6 yards again the keeper did well. Jake Holman and Kevin Hughes both made good blocks to keep Darren Moyes untroubled. All 3 subs were made and after 80 minutes Regent added a 4th when the defender did well to block Ashley Sauka's initial shot, Ricky Griggs was first to react though and his volley squirmed under the unfortunate keeper who had a great game except this. In injury time Terry Rymer supplied Ashley Sauka when he beat he defender before crossing to Ashley who side footed his finish into the bottom corner to make it 0-5. FT 0-5
A very good first half display against Cornard who look like that first win is close if they show that same commitment each game. It was into the bar after for frozen rolls and horse sausages!!
