After gaining promotion on Monday night it was Gt Yarmouth who left North Road celebrating on Saturday as they took the unbeaten run stretching back to September in the League. Webster was without Sam Holman, Jake Gould and Scott Page for varying reasons and shuffled the pack with Keiron Baker and Charlie Thompson coming into the starting line up and Dale Brown making his first start for the first team after impressing for the reserves. Webster and I both beating Dan Beeson before the game with top class penalties meaning Dan owes 3 dirty pints. Both teams started fairly evenly but it was the away side who took the lead after 15 minutes when Regent failed to deal with a corner and their player poked home from a yard for 0-1. Regent responded and Dale Brown saw his 25 yard half volley just inches over the bar, several corners were earned but on most occasions were too near the away keeper. HT 0-0
The second half started with Regent looking to take more care of the ball and work harder but not happy with the start all 3 subs were brought on as we looked for an equaliser. After 10 minutes with Regent on the attack the away side broke well and from a cross Jake Holman could do little but convert into his own goal for 0-2. This finally got a response and within 5 minutes we had a goal back, Ryan Salter playing a pass through to Liam Whittaker who controlled and rounded the keeper before he was brought down. Liam Whittaker took the resulting penalty and made it 1-2. Regent continued to press and minutes later struck the crossbar with the keeper beaten. Ricky Griggs on 2 occasions beat his defender but hit his shot high over the bar and at the other end Dan Beeson made a superb save as the away side caught us on the break. FT 1-2
Regent will hope for better when the 2 sides meet in the First Division KO Cup final. The Jaeger train was cancelled as Webster and I are the worst losers but nothing wrong with having standards!
